When do you consider an opinion 'Dumb'?

In your context. Tools are useful, and nothing wrong with being a child. We've all done it.

That's your judgment. Don't know if you've ever heard of Roger Von Oech, but he was famous in the 80's for some work he did in creativity. One of his suggestions when developing a project is to "Ask A Fool". That means, you ask someone who has no clue about your topic what they understand of it and what they'd like to know. Extremely useful in a variety of fields.

Writing people off for being "dumb" or "simple" or even "childlike" is not, in my opinion, what wise people do. People who are truly wise, that is.

Ignorance is a natural human state. We are all dumb at something (one of mine is calculus, there are a zillion others), so I have nothing against it.

But people who are cruel or judgmental for no particular reason besides ego are usually the ones who aren't worth my time.
Why are you being willfully obtuse?

And thank you for your opinions, I will give them the weight that they deserve

You’re arguing we should be fully aware of the thoughts and opinions of those who are uninformed, inexperienced or foolish which I agree with. Unfortunately there’s a growing undercurrent that the uninformed/inexperienced are automatically better equipped for all expert tasks than actual career experts. It’s tricky to observe the former without excusing the latter.

About as well as the entire marriage

A friend of mine told this “joke” that one of our other long time friends got picked up for molesting kids thinking nobody would believe him but some truly did. It’s crazy because the “joke guy” is generally really nice. I don’t know why he thought this was an appropriate joke.

The friend got over it quickly but his wife is (understandably) taking it to the grave.

Sometimes when I consider using the "dumb" button I feel a "stupid" button would be more appropriate...;);)

Dumb: The term "dumb" typically refers to a temporary or situational lack of intelligence or the ability to speak. It is often used to describe someone who is temporarily unable to find the right words or express themselves verbally. Being dumb does not necessarily indicate a lack of overall intelligence or cognitive abilities. Instead, it implies a momentary difficulty in communicating effectively.

Stupid: On the other hand, "stupid" generally implies a more permanent or inherent lack of intelligence. It refers to a person's overall intellectual capacity or their consistent inability to grasp concepts, understand information, or make sound judgments. Unlike being dumb, being stupid suggests a more lasting condition rather than a momentary lapse in cognitive abilities.

If that's really the case, then you need to do your best to refute it.

Let's say you see someone breaking into your neighbors' house. You call the cops. Just saying, "Hey you burglars, you are criminals" isn't going to make anything better.

98% of the time I do. But even you can admit, some are just so darned stupid it's a complete waste of everyone's time to refute it.

I will very rarely use a dumb on a first pass. Usually it is reserved for a terrible take that a person continues to drive and often tears others down if they don't agree. So it usually is because they won't let it go even though everyone is telling them nicely they are being dumb.

That said, I will sometimes place a dumb on a post where someone is reporting something that others said that is truly dumb - like when they quote a truly special tweet. Usually people understand that I am saying that what they are reporting is dumb but some people don't and will get offended.

How about we get rid of the dumb reaction and replace it with a Denozzo head smack, because some opinions are so bad it’s all that needs conveyed.

Speaking of people with dumb offerings here, what happened to BadBoi? Did he get put in time out or maybe finally got his offer to go along to PSU?
