What's everyone reading?

I know that others find these books just fine. I read two of them, if I remember correctly, and I didn't find them to be up to the standard of Clancy. My brother, who is a bigger Clancy fan than I am, independently came to the same conclusion.

Of course to each their own.

Well, that may depend on what period Clancy you're talking about. I don't find the late era Clancy all that good so it wouldn't be a high bar to clear for the other authors to match that.

My favorite Clancy Books:

1) Hunt for Red October
2) Clear and Present Danger
3) Sum of All Fears
4) Debt of Honor (reading the end of this book after 9/11 hits different)
5) Cardinal of the Kremlin

I agree the early Clancy books were better but I still think the later ones were a bit better than the totally ghost written ones. Besides I'm not a big fan of people buying the right to publish something under a successful writers name under the guise of "co-writing." Clancy may have even had help with his later books, but it was clear to me he didn't write a lick of the "co-authored" books.

The Wheel of Time. I'm somewhere in the book 5-9 range (It's a set on kindle and hard to tell which book). I'm also listening to The Armor of Light by Ken Follet while driving/mowing.

My buddy swore by that series so I tried the first book. Just couldn't get too excited for it halfway through the first. I'll try it again at some point.

Currently reading Shogun by James Clavell

The library had a re-release that cuts it in half on Libby (e-book lender), but I'm doubting I'm going to get to the end of "Book 1" before it's due.

Rewatching Band of Brothers since its May, and think I'll pull the Ambrose book off the shelf again when I'm done with Shogun

I am really hoping my library gets the audio version of BOB by Ambrose as I have much more time to listen vs. sit and read. I just rewatched the series again this week.

HBO put together a great podcast series for it a couple years ago. Excellent listen.

Pretty good. Worth a read.

It's a topic I'd like to dig into a little more. I'd say the attitudes and actions of the Germans were both expected and unexpected

Honestly there are about 3 books in the last part of Jordan’s time that can be skipped and you can read the plot points online through a couple very short reviews. Makes the series a lot more palitable

I read I think the first 5 Wheel books a long time ago.

Then I just read the last 3 with Sanderson and honestly there were a few things I didn’t know but not that many.

I don't remember if it was book 10 or 11, but I got to the end and it felt like nothing actually happened. The whole thing was basically get all the character to specific points on the map for the finale, nothing really to drive the overall plot forward.

Just read The Martian - what a quick read. I'm giving it to my son to read this summer. The way it is written with a hundred short mission logs it is great for an ADHD kid with the attention span of a gnat. Gotta keep his brain at least a little engaged this summer.

I've both read it and listened to the audio version. Both are excellent.
