What excuse will EIU come up with?

This game was a lot like the woman's game last night in terms of fouls. Iowa had a lot of calls on them, but when you are wildly swinging at every shot, bodying the guy drive to the basket and contest every rebound you are going to get a lot of fouls. Lucky they didn't get called for more. ISU didn't get a shot off inside the 3 point arch where someone from Iowa was not bumping of smacking them.

Baloney. Lots of touch fouls both ways. Hawks just got called more cuz it was in Hilton. Guarantee you it would have been reversed in Carver and you guys would be ********....rightly so.

It's more about HOW games are being called this year. I don't like it.

Some of those uncontested layups both teams had was directly related to way games are being called this year. Saw plenty of guys unwilling to contest because they knew they'd get whistled if there is any contact whatsoever. Years past you could get away with a little body.....I like it better that way.

Oh well....great win.

Ha. Yes. I can't wait for my coworker's excuse. Last night was hilarious when I told him we're playing tomorrow. He told me "Yeah, good luck with that one. We're really good and ranked." I said "I don't know how to tell you this, but we're ranked too, undefeated, and ranked higher than you." He hasn't a clue, but half the time he has really lame excuses when ISU wins something and the other times he just accepts it.

Yeah....except this didn't really happen. Cool story though.

It seemed like the fence post played out of his mind. Relatively.

Basically what is going on here is that most clone fans have convinced themselves that Iowa is still in the Lickliter years, and when this Iowa team showed up it shocked them and they assume it was the best they have ever played. They played much better against ND, UTEP, and Nova. Woodbury rebounded well, and hit a nice turnaround, but looked lost on defense a few times and still picks up stupid fouls. Not out of his mind at all. Again, the only person on the team that played above their average level was White.

Disagree. If ISU shoots well from 3 it isn't close.

ISU shot almost 36% from three, how much better do you think they're shooting against a team with as much size as Iowa?

Seriously, I know it's impossible to give Iowa any credit at all, but ISU played pretty well tonight. The boxscore doesn't lie. Both teams played a good game, ISU made their ft's down the stretch, Iowa didn't.

Of course the refs were against Iowa - so much so they put the Hawks on the line several times down the stretch...

I'm already getting over the loss. I fully expected Iowa to lose this one, but when it is right there for the taking, and you miss your FT, it is tougher to take.

ISU is a tourney team, Iowa is a tourney team, it was a great game......I think if ISU losses this game, they are every bit as bitter as Iowa fan is about it.

Really? You realize that Mike Sanzere was one of the refs right? He is a Big Ten ref. Oh yeah and Tom Eades was another. He calls a lot of Big Ten games too. Stop with the excuses. You have a good team, and choked at the end. You'll be in good condition for the tournament unless something magically bad happens to your team.

We shot more FTs because of how we played. It has nothing to do with how the game was officiated. We simply attacked the basket more than Iowa did. When Iowa attacked the basket we were nowhere to be found (lazy D).

Just like the announcers said, I thought the game was officiated pretty reasonable.

Not in the same way as Iowa fans are being bitter about it. I wouldn't be blaming the refs. I'd be blaming the fact that we missed 13 FTs. That's a verifiable statistic, not a "conspiracy statistic."

Exactly. There's more to the story than just the stats. The way games are being called this year across EVERY NCAA game, we did a better job of exploiting that. Iowa did not. Case closed. I mean, Iowa did beat us a number of times for an open layup/dunk.

If there's one thing we don't do here it's blame refs and think up unrealistic conspiracy theories.

I was impressed with this Iowa team. I was disappointed with the Clones transition defense and free throw shooting. Lucky to get out of there with a win, but these guys really know how to sack up when it is crunch time.

Hawkeyes, be proud of your team.

ISU won the game, but don't make up stuff. One guy on Iowa's team played their A game. White. That is it. Marble was average. Uthoff and Gesell were average, and everyone else **** the bed.

Marble outperformed his season averages by quite a bit. Niang and White did indeed both dominate.

The star players who didn't come up big was Kane looking at season stats.

Enjoy the L.

How could you blame the refs when the other team gets called for more fouls and attempts less free throws than you made? Of course you'd find something else to look to.

This loss isn't on the refs because Iowa had many opportunities to make a play in the last minute and failed.

I don't like the way the games are called now either, but that is the way it is. Iowa was way less willing to give up the uncontested basket after the driver got the edge, which is why they had a lot more fouls. Iowa got a lot of their fouls right at the basket and they were fouls.
