What excuse will EIU come up with?

Yeah....except this didn't really happen. Cool story though.

Really - you're going to tell me a story didn't happen? Are you THAT stupid? Out of all the things in the world you could call someone out on, you call someone out on a STORY you had ZERO part in that is neither verifiable or unverifiable just in passing on a message board? There wasn't even anything out of the ordinary about this story.

Get the **** out of here, troll.

Basically what is going on here is that most clone fans have convinced themselves that Iowa is still in the Lickliter years, and when this Iowa team showed up it shocked them and they assume it was the best they have ever played. They played much better against ND, UTEP, and Nova. Woodbury rebounded well, and hit a nice turnaround, but looked lost on defense a few times and still picks up stupid fouls. Not out of his mind at all. Again, the only person on the team that played above their average level was White.
He played for over half the game for the first time this season! Maybe I was interpreting being left in the game as playing out of his mind. And I like how you knew who I was talking about.

Not in the same way as Iowa fans are being bitter about it. I wouldn't be blaming the refs. I'd be blaming the fact that we missed 13 FTs. That's a verifiable statistic, not a "conspiracy statistic."

And most Hawkeyes are blaming the loss on missed FT, I know I am.

Well if Iowa shot 100% and ISU shot 100%, Iowa would have won 176-171. :v_SPIN:

Dude, you guys rushed the court.

If ISU was the better team, they wouldn't need to rely on "Magic" to squeak one out

Just let the excuses come in. We rushed the court because we beat our main rival at the buzzer. Don't act like Iowa wouldn't have done the exact same thing.

Hawk fans will just blame it on the officials and some sort of home cooking. The smart ones will realize that in the end their players just blew it by not making their shots or their free throws. How ironic that the game came down to ISU making free throws and Iowa missing them.

Marble outperformed his season averages by quite a bit. Niang and White did indeed both dominate.

The star players who didn't come up big were Ejim and Kane looking at season stats.

Enjoy the L.

Pls he's dumb. Gessell played very well. Marble is a scorer, and he had I think 19.

We did a horrible job in the first half getting back on d, and weren't even close to matching their effort running the floor.

It is concerning the lack of urgency this team plays with early in games.

Really? You realize that Mike Sanzere was one of the refs right? He is a Big Ten ref. Oh yeah and Tom Eades was another. He calls a lot of Big Ten games too. Stop with the excuses. You have a good team, and choked at the end. You'll be in good condition for the tournament unless something magically bad happens to your team.

Don't you mean "chocked"?!

Iowa just has to clean up these fouls and they will be really good, they just reach, grab, hack a lot. Can't play like that anymore, if you do, you going to struggle down the stretch on the road as the other team shoots free throws. That's just reality.

Now, on the other hand, if you are going to play transition defnese like ISU, you going to struggle on the road as well.

Exactly. There's more to the story than just the stats. The way games are being called this year across EVERY NCAA game, we did a better job of exploiting that. Iowa did not. Case closed. I mean, Iowa did beat us a number of times for an open layup/dunk.
And Iowa will see more of these calls they aren't liking right now when they get into Big Ten play. The caliber of refs when they play Fair Dickinson isn't going to be the same as Big Ten vs. Big 12. Gotta hand it to our men though. They never gave up.

That is a more legitimate reason than "OMG, ISU got to the line way more times. The refs were totally pulling for ISU to win this game and probably had money on it." ISU attacked more physically, got the line more, missed a ton of FTs, and in the end Iowa choked and should have hit their FTs. Iowa could have easily won this game.

Iowa is going to be really good this year, but what you say is true. Especially with teams like Ohio State, Michigan State, etc. The refs will call these games very tight more than they won't call much of anything, especially this year with the new crap rules.

We shot more FTs because of how we played. It has nothing to do with how the game was officiated. We simply attacked the basket more than Iowa did. When Iowa attacked the basket we were nowhere to be found (lazy D).

Just like the announcers said, I thought the game was officiated pretty reasonable.
I agree. And to the Hawks that are complaining about the foul discrepancy, Uthoff should have fouled out early in the second half. There were numerous times where he was bumping on the perimeter (esp against Long) & nothing was called -- even on George's last made basket, should have been called for a block on the perimeter. That said, there were similar instances of fouls that ISU did NOT get called for.
Also, Dolph said "the difference in the game was that the Hawks didn't make FTs down the stretch." Uh, it is true they missed FTs, but did he even look at how many ISU missed during the entire game. This was a great game & no one should be making excuses - just applaud both teams and the effort each gave!

Who was the better basketball team last year?

Iowa is always the best team regardless of outcome according to Iowa fans. Head to head mattered last year, but won't this year. It also doesn't matter when comparing coaches since Mad Fran is now 1-3 head to head.

Maybe some Hawk fans and players can get Rashad Vaughn's autograph next year at Carver.
