Reading WWII history as a kid I always thought that Gibraltar was an island in the strait and not a big ass rock peninsula.

Born and raised in MN. I had no idea everyone else used "Goose" until high school when the question appeared on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. It was one of the low dollar questions, and Gray Duck wasn't even an option. I was quite confused at the moment why Gray Duck wasn't listed as a choice!

Purple Duck, Red Duck, Yellow Duck, Green Duck, Orange Duck... Gray Duck!!!

We moved out of MN to prevent my children from being subjected to the oddity that is "Gray Duck".

This isn't 100% of the reason, but god damn is it weird.

I feel like a failure as a parent that my kids listened to my wife and use gray duck.

For 1 hour when the clocks fall back when daylight saving time ends, it’s the same time in the Florida Panhandle and Eastern Oregon.

I will never understand why these areas are in the central time zone.

How does one correctly determine the geographical center of an irregular shape like Iowa? I imagine there are different ways of doing that. Is it where the four corner points all cross on intersecting lines? Genuinely curious about that.
Here's one method:

Google tells me so.

But I would assume math is involved as well as maybe the stars, moon and sun as well.
You use calculus/integration, iirc. But you need a formula to determine the distance to the borders and then minimize it maybe? I think we did this once in calc, but it might have been area, idk. It was 30 years ago.

Online it suggests hanging the shape from a string, from various points on the borders, and look for where the lines converge. If you get multiple points of convergence, you average the locations. I think that would work.
