My wife will sometimes say things like "as long as we are in Texas, can we go see so-and-so clear on the other end of the state."
Uhhh dear... we are closer to your family now than we will be when we get to Houston.
She also did this once in California. "As long as we are in California, can we go see my dad north of Sacramento?" We were traveling to San Diego for a conference. Just a short 9 hour drive from her family.
