The only problem I had with the playcalling was the onside kick and the lack of running plays called in the first half. We ran the ball well yesterday.
Austen forced throws all day and ALL the picks were his fault. He'll come back and be better the rest of the season but even at halftime I was wondering how much longer they were going to leave him in.
Does Herman's playbook call for throwing into triple or quadruple coverage? I highly doubt it.
Agree it may have been time to take AA out for the afternoon, but the students should not have been calling for his head? Who is next CPR?
Tom Herman's offense is so bad that last year Chase Clement threw for 44 TDS and 7INTs.

Those are nice stats and all, but that was against mostly Conference USA defenses. How did Rice fare against BCS schools?
He did that with lower-caliber athletes against lower-caliber opponents. Let's hope that it is all relative.

Except he really has no one pushing for the two years after Austen is gone. Totally different situation and if we start making decisions based on kids being babies and leaving if they don't play we will never be successful. To the moron who said that Arnaud is not smart enough-wake up. Tiller can not throw the ball well enough. with a lot of the short passes we throw, every one needs to be on the money to maximize YAC. Arnaud will be the starter unless he continues to struggle and I doubt he will in the next two games. Tiller will get reps and he will have to make HUGE plays while Austen struggles. I am behind AA 100 percent. I think he has what it takes. Keep in mind that he did some great things the end of last year.
Bates wasn't even CLOSE to Arnaud. Bates could run, but he couldn't throw to save his life, his reads were brutal, and his pocket presence was awful. Tiller is pretty much the same thing.
No one with half a brain in their head has ever said Arnaud is the best QB in the Big 12. Ever.
So who was the impersonator Arnaud we saw at the end of last season? Oh ****, that shoots holes in your argument.
You really need to watch some football games and form something that could be considered coherent.
Oh, and food for thought, the best high school basketball player in the United States just happens to be from Ames, IA. Please don't let rational thoughts get into your mind.
Oh, and wanna put some money where your mouth is on the Big 12 caliber? I would LOVE to lay down some $$$$ here says Arnaud is a Big 12 QB.
And just one last tidbit, you don't find Big 12 QBs in Omaha, Nebraska. Sorry. You realize Tiller's HS team wasn't even .500 his senior year IIRC? From watching practice, Beuker throws a better ball than Tiller does. Tiller's athletic ability is why he's got a shot. You can teach throwing mechanics, you can teach reads, can't teach athletic ability.

Pass heavy and control the clock. No wins against the Big 12, but I will say that there was improvement against Texas both times Rice played them (too bad you couldn't tell it from the scoreboard).
Here is what has me wondering about what is going on at QB.
I am not buying the “He had a bad day argument.” I thought AA actually played a better game against Iowa than NDSU. The difference being he faced a defense that capitalized on many of the mistakes he was making.
Take the first interception as an example. First drive of the NDSU game, same play and he makes the same throw behind his receiver. The NDSU back does not make the play to get the interception but the UI guy does. This was the same bad throw but with a different result because of who we were facing.
The major improvement I saw was his exchanges with ARob. No fumbles or getting tangled up with him when he is running. It just looked a lot cleaner the last game than the NDSU game.
I think AA needs to lose the “As I go so goes the Cyclones” mindset and just focus on being the best QB he can be. Once he does that then he will get his mechanics back and start making better decisions.

NO. He complete 16 passes against NDSU, which is far better than what he did against Iowa. Are the Iowa dbacks more likely to pick off his errant throws than NDSU? Of course, but he threw alot more of those errant passes against Iowa, too.
Well he does only have a .5 winning percentage
By winning % that probably makes Rhoads the best coach in ISU history...
