We get to stomp on a Hawk flag

When your talking "Branding" it is a big deal. I worked for Coca Cola several years, while in college. If our route driver was caught drinking a Pepsi product, automatic termination. Look at the $$$ ISU and college sports puts into their brand. It is a big deal.

The contract did not ask for this flag to be buried under the lot. I'd be telling the contractor to investigate and remove the flag. After it's removed then ISU should decide if they ever use this contractor again.

The person who posted this may end up losing his job, for being stupid but will never have to buy his own beer in IC again.

The first part while crazy is so true. I know someone who drove/merchandised for Dr. Pepper and they had they same thing. He drove way across town to buy Mountain Dew, or had his wife or family members do it for him.

I’d say that’s different though. It would be like a hawk fan leaving a flag in the rafters of Hilton. Sure, it’s kind of silly and stupid, but whatever; it’s a college rivalry. What makes what this hawk fan allegedly did so stupid is that if everything goes according to plan, countless rivals will walk over your flag which is disrespectful. Therefore, the fan who allegedly did this was an idiot, because he’s doing the exact opposite of what he intended.
Oh, for sure!
Yeah, and, also stupid, because if true could catch some heat from their employer for a dumb act like this, too!

Y'all talking about tearing up the project, and firing the guy, may be taking this a bit far. We're talking about a thousands of dollars project, and a $2, 12 inch by 12 inch, flag from Wal-Mart.

Responsibility of the contractor, I wouldn't feel bad about it. ISU isn't paying for some dumba** to bury a flag from another school in the project, they are paying for a quality job done to specifications. Anything else is unacceptable, regardless of the cost to the contractor. Hire better employees.

Fixed.

This is pretty much how I feel about it. Is it really a big deal, probably not. At the same time, I wasn't paying for them to bury the flag of a rival school on my property. And as another poster mentioned, we are talking about a lot of money here, So the job should be done how I asked it to be done and not used as some stupid prank by one of your lacky employees.

If I was in a sour mood, I'd probably go to the contractor and tell them they need to prove to me that where and how it was buried wouldn't cause any issues with the sub base.

This is just stupid, and most likely a 99.9% chance it's not true. Why would an opposing team, who is used to getting "buried" on the court in Hilton Coliseum, also bury a flag there? Just idiotic.

Don't you bury things that are dead? Yep, I thought so. So Hawkeye basketball is dead then? Wait a minute, maybe it was a smart move since Hawkeye basketball is basically dead at this point.

Just a side note... there's no doubt that in the slight chance this is true, if they can find out who did it, they definitely should be fired. I don't care if it's an ISU flag, Iowa flag, blanket, towel, anything.... I wouldn't want my workers doing that kind of thing on my projects.

I highly doubt it was buried in concrete. Pre-pour checks will get that and most inspectors won't want to take the heat for that.

Was it maybe thrown in the dirt as they were filling in or is it thrown under some asphalt as they were paving? It's possible. It'd be easy to do.

Also, guy probably won't get fired (unless they were already looking for a reason to fire him). Suspend him for a couple of days and call it good.

I'm sure there will be some mildly unpleasant conversations, but it'll be a fairly small non-event. Unless you know exactly where the flag was buried (i.e. have a picture of it), if you make the contractor go and dig up a bunch of work and find nothing, ISU is going to be paying for the work twice.

Side note: I dealt with a precaster in Massachusetts who had a hell of a time with their workers trying to slip red sox stuff into material destined for Yankee stadium.

So let me get this straight...
You brag that this is Hawkeye Country...you probably, at some point, proudly displayed this flag somewhere in Squawkville to your morally deprived Hawk friends, who similarly got prematurely excited all over it. Took it to numerous squaweye events to have something to cry in at the end of another Eastern Iowa U loss. Then, you take this treasure wherever you go because you treat it like Tom Hanks treated Wilson in Castaway. Like it's your only friend that you think talks back to you...only to take it to your work site...
...to bury it.
Wow...you pulled one over on us. Whew.
By burying the only friend you had.
clap...clap...clap.

Give the worker a couple options. 1) pay to remove it. 2) fly (ISU will provide) an ISU flag at his house for the next ten years.

This is all interesting. Usually when I bury something, that means it is dead.
Now I guess when we win, we can dance on the grave.

After reading thru some more posts:
1. Its not concrete, its asphalt.
2. It didn't cost thousands. It's the effing donor lot at Hilton, it's way beyond that.
3. If I was a supervisor at Manatts, I'd be really pissed. You dont post something on social media disrespecting your customer. Manatts has a plant in Ames, it was a stupid post.

Third point is it. As an employer, if I find out who it is, they’re fired whether it’s true or not. Could potentially cause irreparable damage to the reputation of the company.
