WBB Recruiting

Another old article on her (August 2016): http://www.newtimes.co.rw/section/read/202364

Currently she is in third year at University of Rwanda, Huye campus, pursuing Applied Statistics.

I assume she attended U of Rwanda through Spring 2017. She then went to Jacksonville College for 17-18 and got her associates degree in one year (not a surprise she was able to do it that fast, given her background). I'm curious what she plans to do at ISU -- perhaps get a bachelors degree? She might have enough transfer credit to pull it off, but I'm not sure how all that works.

Guessing it is her age. NCAA starts their five year eligibility clock one year after your class graduates from HS. She is going to be 25 in December. Seems figuring that might be complicated overseas, not sure everything translated perfectly to USA high school but think it mostly measures up with some complications for sure

The article I posted below your comment says she's currently in her third year at U Rwanda. Assuming "third year" refers to the 2016-17 year, that does make 18-19 her fifth year of college. So that does make sense.

If this was the men's team I am sure the NCAA would find a way to declare her ineligible. o_O

The U17 World Cup is being held there: http://www.fiba.basketball/world/u17women/2018

He must have attended some of the early games. Looking at the USA and Canada rosters, a couple players I think we have some level of interest in are Canada's Masikewich (2019) and Russell (2020).

I believe Australia was there too so with our history with Aussies may have been following someone on their team.

I saw Kendall Bostic's HS team win a 3A Indiana State Championship this year. Very dominate team. They have three girls with D1 offers that will only be Juniors this fall. She would be a great addition.

Pasting these from the Aubrey Joens thread.

Incoming freshmen the next three seasons (including the upcoming season):

2018
Ashley Joens: 6'0" SG. BSBB #23, ASGR #35
Maddie Frederick: 6'0" combo guard. BSBB #159, ASGR #111
Morgan Kane: 6'3" F. BSBB n/a, ASGR #135

2019
Maggie McGraw: 5'11" W. BSBB #121, ASGR #78
Gabby McBride: 6'2" F/C. BSBB n/a, ASGR #234

2020
Lexi Donarski: 5'10" combo guard. BSBB #101, ASGR #39
Kylie Feuerbach: 6'0" W. BSBB #91, ASGR #122
Aubrey Joens: 5'9" SG. Rankings not yet available (I can see BSBB and ASGR rankings by looking at ISU's commitments, and they aren't updated yet)

A lot of talent from 2-4, although we tend to play a lot of wing players so there are certainly enough minutes for that talent.. We could definitely use some more 1 and 5.

I don't know enough about Frederick to know if she's capable of PG at this level or will just primarily be a SG/wing, and we probably won't find out this season with all the other PG talent on the 18-19 roster. Donarski is likely a legitimate PG from what I've heard.

We still have three spots open for 2019 and 2020 combined. Some possibilities:

2019
Madison Greene, 5'8" combo guard from Ohio. We've offered.
Brynn Masikewich, 6'1" wing/post from Canada

2020
Caitlin Clark, 6'0" PG from WDM Dowling. I assume we've offered, obviously.
Sharon Goodman, 6'2" post from Cresco, IA
Lauren Ware, 6'4" post from North Dakota
Emily Ryan, 5'10" guard from Kansas
Kendall Bostic, 6'1" post from Indiana. We've offered.
Angela Dugalic, 6'3" post from Illinois. We've offered.

EDIT: There's a good chance we've offered some of the above people even if I didn't indicate it. I'm just going by what's publicly available.
One player I missed above is 2019 McKenna Warnock, a 6'2" W/F from Monona Grove HS (Madison, WI area). We offered her quite a while ago. She has offers from a ton of schools and I don't see anywhere that she's narrowed it down, so I don't know where we might stand.

Goodman verballed Iowa (over ISU and Drake, according to one article).

Another 2020 to keep an eye on: Leilani Kapinus, a 5'11" PG from Madison Memorial HS in WI.

2020 is also updated, and Donarski is #19. It looks like they are outsourcing this to Dan Olsen, and he's only providing details on the top 100 seniors, top 60 juniors, top 25 sophs, and a watch list for freshmen. So we don't have rankings for any of the other ISU recruits.

McGraw played with Zoe Young (Valley HS and Maryland commit) this summer at Kingdom Hoops (Ankeny) along with Grace Cummings (Roosevelt HS and Minnesota commit). Had a really good summer 2018 on a somewhat abbreviated AAU circuit. Played in something like 6 tournaments instead of the usual every weekend (11-12 tournaments) thing that some programs engage in. McGraw did not play AAU in summer 2017. Has spent the past two summers on strength training, conditioning and skills work.

They have McGraw listed as honorable mention All-State for 2018. Actually, she was First Team along with Young and 2018 ISU recruit Ashley Joens and others.

Also have McGraw attending Indianola HS. Actually, she transferred out this past spring and is now at SE Polk.

ICYMI, Justice Ross, from East High in Des Moines, also received and accepted a basketball scholarship from Minnesota. Young, Ross, Cummings and McGraw all started out on the same AAU team at KH when they were 5th graders. Young and Cummings fathers coached their team for 3 years. Kind of cool that those 4 are all D-1 power 5 commits.

Jared posted on Twitter that Emily Ryan (2020 I listed above) is visiting ISU this weekend. She was the Kansas Gatorade POY list year as a sophomore. As a super-prolific scorer in small-town Kansas, the comparisons to Jackie Stiles are inevitable.

Stats last season: 34.5 points, 6.8 assists, 6.0 steals and 5.5 rebounds per game

I work at Old Chicago in Ames and WBB coaches chose to eat there for lunch today. Saw people that weren't coaches so must have been Emily and her folks.

For 2019, Masikewich verballed UCLA recently and Warnock just verballed Iowa (we were not finalists).

That leaves Greene as the only potential 2019 recruit I know about. I don't have inside info, so there certainly could be others. But the early signing season fast approaches, so we're at the time most recruits are making their selections if they haven't already.
