WBB Recruiting

Nice quick hit article on our main recruiting region:

http://prospectsnation.com/story/summer-jam-11-0

Maggie McGraw gets mentioned, as well as Lauren Ware who is high on the board.

Of course Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are mentioned, but Caitlin has been offered by everyone, and I think Paige has already said no to the staff.

Saw Garman retweet this video of Maggie McGraw from that event:

I saw pics of the team at the Ames farmers market and Adventureland, and there was someone unfamiliar in the pics. I eventually figured out it was Ines Nezerwa, a post player from Burundi who just finished her sophomore year at Jacksonville CC. She must be visiting ISU this weekend. She is an older player -- she's 24.

(edited to sophomore year)

From Nezerwa's Instagram, I see she visited in late May as well. Given she's in these unofficial team pictures today, it seems there's likely a lot of mutual interest.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear in the near future that there's a new addition to the roster for the 18-19 session.

Well if she is right that there are some good players in Burundi, might as well turn the pipeline on.

Thanks mred, when I saw those pictures on Twitter I was wondering who she was.

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's basketball program and head coach Bill Fennelly announced today an addition to the 2018 signing class, as Inès Nezerwa signed on to play for the Cyclones. With the signing of Nezerwa, Iowa State now has five new additions this season, joining Maddie Frederick, Ashley Joens, Morgan Kane and Jade Thurmon who are all signed on to compete for the Cyclones next season and enrolled in classes.

"We are excited to add Inès to our Cyclone family," Fennelly said. "Adding a player with her length and size is a major bonus for this year's team. Inès is a hard worker in all she does and will be fun for our fans to get to know on and off the court."

Nezerwa is a 6-3 forward who hails from Nyakabiga, Burundi, but has spent the 2017-18 season at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas. Last season, she netted 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor. She earned NJCAA All-Conference honors and was named an NJCAA All-American in 2017-18. In addition to her honors on the court, Nezerwa was named the NJCAA Region XIV Academic team. Nezerwa will join the Cyclones as a senior.

Prior to the addition of Nezerwa, Iowa State's class ranked 15th nationally, marking the second time the Cyclones have secured a top-15 class in the last four years.

Note that the article and roster page call her a senior. I'm not sure why, but it seems she only has one year of eligibility. Basically she replaces the spot Bride K-H left when she transferred.

Guessing it is her age. NCAA starts their five year eligibility clock one year after your class graduates from HS. She is going to be 25 in December. Seems figuring that might be complicated overseas, not sure everything translated perfectly to USA high school but think it mostly measures up with some complications for sure
