WBB Recruiting

I think we had high interest but Young may have other ideas (I think your post is in that regard). Rag on me if you like, but that stupid lawsuit taints minds - even if we are 100% cleared.

Very doubtful. Not with the legions of support Coach got from players past and present.

Out of reach for us but saw this in Star Tribune today on a top prospect here in Minnesota and thought it was worth sharing as a general interest WBB thingy. Apparently Geno's been to my school district lately scouting sophomore, Paige Bueckers. Can't ever remember him in state at a HS before. She played as an 8th grader in the state championship game two years ago.

Geno Auriemma has become a familiar face at Hopkins High School’s Lindbergh Center, having stopped by three times in recent months, most recently on the first official day of girls’ basketball practices.

Might have to pop over for some games and see Geno, Muffet, Mulkey, Frese and the gang.

Found this to be an interesting read about how easy recruiting is now for Geno. MSU had Kia Nurse wrapped up....

Merchant was reminded of it watching Uconn guard Kia Nurse, who’d she’d known since Nurse was 7. She’d recruited her forever. Thought she had her. Then, on the last day of the July recruiting period, a UConn assistant happened to see her.

“In an eight-day span, it’s over,” Merchant said. “That’s what you’re up against a little bit from a recruiting standpoint. There’s just not enough parity in the women’s game.”

It's a blue blood program built entirely from scratch. Not a big name school, no tradition, no winning record before Geno. Color me jealous. His advantage is one he built and sustained year after year.

Yeah, but still shows how the lack of parity is hurting women's basketball at the collegiate level.

Who are we recruiting for 2019 besides Clark? Total class of 12 so far and a guard, F or C, or combination of at most two, would fill the class.

Clark is a 2020. For 2019, some possible players to keep an eye on:

Kennedy Brown, highly-regarded 6'5" post out of Derby, KS
McKenna Warnock, 6'0" wing out of Marshall, WI (received an ISU offer in Aug 2016)

ISU might also take a look at Erin Whalen, a 6'1" G/F transferring from Vandy. She has two years of eligibility remaining.

ISU's 2019 recruiting seems to be winding down a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up one or two more, not even necessarily from the above list.

For 2020, some known/suspected targets:

Caitlin Clark of Dowling (of course)
Lauren Ware, a 6'4" post from Bismarck, ND
Aubrey Joens of Iowa City High (Ashley's sister)
Erin Hedman, a 6'2" F from New Berlin, WI
Alyssa Reed, a 5'7" G from Keller, TX
Emily Ryan, a 5'9" G from Claflin, KS
