WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Final Coaches poll came out. ISU #25. Usually like the AP better. Does AP even do a final or is their last one for the season pre-March Madness?

#2 Iowa - up one from previous poll
#17 Oklahoma - down three from previous poll
#19 Texas - down three from previous poll

Four Big Ten teams in the final Top 10.

Too early to judge who will be ranked pre-season since you have to factor in portal adds these days. Unless ISU and Sooners add some I'll go out on a limb and say maybe only Texas will be ranked pre-season, maybe Baylor.

Your point is supported by the two calls on Clark for pushing off on her drives, in one case, grabbing the defender's hand. She's been doing that all season, and it wasn't called, but in this game, it was. Clark is as impressive on her inside drives as she is on the 3, but her drives were less effective when she could not push off.

I don't quite understand the hate for Clark. She is a generational player. And to achieve that level of success, she takes everything the game, including the officials, will give her. And that includes working the officials. And trash talking.

WRT the officials, I thought a few calls were pretty ticky tacky - but they were the same for both teams. LSU was able to manage that situation and the Hawks were not - in part due to the short bench previously mentioned.
I think Clark is unbelievable- so talented. However, while I understand from reading articles, message boards, etc. that it's part of the game, I don't like the trash talking at all. It bothers me when people talk about her being such a great role model and she goes on and on about that's all she wants is for young girls to look up to her. Trash talking, elbowing people in the face on an out of bounds play (Michigan State overtime), and whining to the refs every time you get a call against you is not a role model. If we want to talk great role models for young girls in Iowa, let's look at Ashley Joens, Stephanie Soares, and Emily Ryan (and really the whole ISU women's team- Morgan Kane and the Down Syndrome gal too- how awesome!). I watch them leave the court every time and truly make kids days by high fiving them all on the way out. I never see any of those three argue or even look at the refs and never see any of them doing any trash talking! This is an ISU message board- let's praise the heck out of these great role models!

LSU’s Angel Reese Turns Down Biden White House Invite But Says, ‘We’ll Go To The Obamas’

Don't know what message one should draw from this story but it makes me downcast. I am less than enthralled with Cark's antics and supported Reese's response to it in kind. My wish is that things would get toned down and more forthright all around. When did being a great player give license to act overtly antagonistic towards opponents? John McEnroe?

Reese's rejecting Biden's invitation to the White House sends a message and Jill Biden's offer to Iowa and Clark was ill-advised.

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

I thought her crown and "double-double queen" schtick were cringey but now I hate her and want her to go away.

Yeah she really wasn't even the player of the game against Iowa IMO. I guess I just get tired of people who are full of themselves. You can put Aaron Rodgers, and his ex Danica Patrick right in those type of groups for me.
Have to give her and Clark credit they are keeping the women's championship game in the press longer than the men's though I'm not sure it's for the right reasons.

I care. Regardless of who was in the White House accepting a championship invitation is a two-way honor and tradition: Honoring the team for achieving the highest of goals and honoring America with your presence.

Why even recognize the tourney championship? Why even have a trophy? Maybe fans should just duke out on Twitter. They all have their opinions and they can't all be right but so whoever has the biggest dumbass comments wins.

Interesting to look back & find when Bluder had previously played Baylor/Mulkey. Didi Richards seemed like a "before social media frenzy" AR).

Probably most Hawkeye "fans" don't even know (or care) that KM was the former coach.

Iowa media has nothing to do with this.
Sadly it’s a national story.
I just cringed when Jill made the comment to invite iowa and credited them with good sportsmanship. Very tone deaf.
After the correct decision was made not to invite iowa I hoped everything would die out.
Right or wrong - Reese is not going to let that happen. I think she has some very valid points- but I think she may have pushed this a little too far, and may hurt her cause.
I just wish the focus could be on the game.

Edit - sorry, I thought I was responding to NWICY when he or she mentioned the iowa press (media)

We need to do something about the Iowa game next year from a ticket perspective. We technically have a sellout with the wnit double header back in the day. If we have a sellout next year because 40% of crowd is Iowa fans I may vomit in my seat.

if the A.D. is smart they will premium price it like they do for FB. won't affect us season ticket holders at all. Drake used to do it all the time for MBB not sure about WBB just can't remember haven't went down to that game for a while. Put a $15 or $20 price tag on that game make the hawks pay to get in.

Drake does it for WBB now; I've been to the Drake/ISU game in DSM, and the tickets always cost more than the rest of their non-conference games.

Is the Cy-Hawk game in Ames for WBB really going to fill Hilton? I am not sure this game will have the same interest for Hawk fans as football. It's just one of 30 some games. Been wondering a little about this regarding their game in Mpls next season and whether that would get an attendance bump from fans driving from Iowa or if a bump would be from Minnesota peeps wanting to see Clark. Either way it would be fun to see a big crowd in The Barn again even if it made it harder for me to grab a ticket. During COVID I haven't been to game at Hilton or Williams and hope to get back this next season. I haven't seen Hawks play in person since Gustafson vs Gophers (Gophers haven't been very good) and the ISU home game versus the Kathleen Doyle Hawks.

If a bunch of casual WBB fans want to fill Hilton I don't see that as a bad thing since we will also have a shot at impressing them with our young players. I'd rather see a full house of 14K than a crowd of 5K that's reported as 10K. 5000 or 6000 is great in WBB but a crowd over twice that is awesome.

I would go to the games in DM in the past but when they started raising the price for our game and you may end up in the middle of their fans I said no I will just watch on TV.

Big 12 stuff. Baylor's now added three from the portal.

They played last year without the transfer they thought would lead their team, Aijha Blackwell, and she's coming back for a extra year. If she's healthy with Littlepage-Buggs and other they might be pretty good. They also have a freshman Letycia Vasconcelos, 6'-7" post from Brazil via Florida HS. Could be interesting.

The gist of the DMR story since it is for subscribers only - Bluder should "find" a way to push one of her scholarship players out or ask them to go off scholarship so they can go after Aneesah Morrow, who is transferring out of DePaul. Also, they should come up with some NIL money to get Morrow.

This kind of thinking is nuts to me.

It's silly stuff. If she had openings it would be an attractive destination for a post but not seeing her actually "run off" anyone. For crying out loud, they are honoring a scholarship to a 2023 recruit that will never even be able to play for them.

Some of the gals could leave Iowa, maybe Goodman** or someone. It's the odd school that doesn't have someone transfer out after the season. However, Bluder hasn't exactly been a yuge player in the transfer recruiting. Only two reserves come to mine for me, Feuerbach and Molly Davis (might be missing someone, not a Hawk roster expert) . Granted Davis was a nice reserve piece at guard. If she does get an opening it will be a huge draw for a post transfer. A post would be stupid not to consider it with Jensen's coaching reputation and Clark at PG.

** Impressed me as a reserve to Czinano as a freshman but she's sort of just disappeared since she hurt her knee. I don't know much about the other gals that didn't make the rotation.
