Clark played 33 minutes Sunday on the ESPN2 national game that was getting a lot of attention. She could have sat out the full 4th and Iowa would have still won but she's the most popular WBB player in the country and casual fans had tuned in to see her play. You had a ton of Hawk fans at Target Center that also came to see her play. That was as much for the viewing audience as for her. The entertainment factor is real. I didn't catch this game but if I was a nation fan just tuning in I'd have wanted to see a triple double.

All of this made me look and Clark is playing 2 minutes a game less than last year. I guess that is partly due to having transfer Molly Davis available. Also seems Bluder looks to give Clark a minute or so here and there during the heat of the game to. There were times where Clark was left in to chase a triple double last year but other times there just wasn't another PG, sort of like ISU and Ryan right now (and last year to).

The polls sure went crazy. Lots of voter overaction.
  • Iowa jumped five to #2, which is a bit much even with their winning four games in two weeks over ranked teams. I might have had them at #5 or so.
  • ISU is first out at #26
  • Oklahoma and Texas clocking at #14 and #15, other than ISU no other Big 12 even getting votes. Not getting how/why Sooners would be in front of Texas. They've lost to Texas twice by 20 points.
  • LSU and Utah got hammered down five spots.

Watching WCC men’s tourney.
Huge Catlain Clark commercial. ESPN has her as the best player by far. She is.

My step son and his buddy are hawk fans. Thy claim Clark is cocky and confident versus being a whiner. I suppose that is the homer viewpoint. I agree that she is one of the most gifted players I’ve seen in a long time, but the whining and complaining just turn me off. If I had to choose between her, Buekers, Boston, Joens etc to build a team around…she wouldn’t make my top 3-4. That being said…if she had committed to ISU I firmly believe Coach wouldn’t tolerate her antics. That alone would elevate her on my list.

Boston is my first pick for a college dream team. A healthy Bueckers is PG1 for USA basketball going forward. But I could watch a highlight reel of Clark passing the ball all day long.

Do whatever you have to do to rationalize it.

Ohio State was down 24 in the first half of the Indiana game. Big difference between that and being down 30 in the fourth quarter.

I'm sure it's also entirely coincidental that she was pulled after recording the triple-double.

Like I said before, we all saw Kim Mulkey pull the same stuff repeatedly at Baylor -- so we know it when we see it other places.

Fennelly absolutely would not tolerate Clark's on-court antics the way Frau Bluder does. Had she chosen ISU, either we'd see someone with VERY different demeanor wearing #22 or she'd have transferred after her freshman season to find a coach who would allow her to more regularly exercise poor judgment in sportsmanship and self-control.

It should be pointed out that being "cocky" and a "whiner" are not always on opposite ends of the spectrum. In the body of many an Iowa Hawkeye, they are quite frequently the same circle in that particular Venn diagram.

What is the recipe for success of nearby smaller programs like South Dakota State (less than half the size of Iowa State), Creighton (4,500 students), and maybe Drake (4,000)? Pride alone and small donors won't do it.

If this is an accurate projection, and Clark was "bridled," would Bill's style then make her more successful? It would certainly make her more palatable to some fans.

Without doing a deep roster dive, I think it is you get kids who want to be at the school then just build team cohesiveness through roster depth and age. Let's be honest there isn't very much NIL money to throw around on WBB/VB. Of the 3 schools you mentioned I would guess only Creighton would the one to put up NIL money. SDSU also won their division FB national championship in 2022. They've been solid athletically for a while now.

Aaron Johnston, SDSU coach, has been there for 23 years. Winning percentage: .752/helped the team transition from Div 2 to Div 1. Seems to do well with recruiting & emphasizes defense. Fun to watch the team's style of play.

He was offered a job at Wisconsin/GB in 2007 & decided to stay at SDSU. He has been mentioned in the coaching search at Minnesota.

When you read that whole article it sounds a lot like what TJ says when he talks about his longterm vision for ISU.

Yep, but the 2019 article also makes a reference about TJ leaving SDSU to go to UNLV. Applebee's even had an Otzel burger on the menu in Brookings.

Chris Bono also coached at SDSU before taking the Wisconsin job....
