WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Iowa is up ten points with seconds left and Clark has 30 and is sitting out of last of the game. Wait, wait, with 18 seconds left Nebbie scored and is fouled and Bluder's Shooters feel threatened! Clark is back in for the last ten seconds... to get another double-double. Weird. Is that odd or am I missing something?

Nope, that's how it works over there. Just like Kim used to do at Baylor -- put people back into a decided game for individual stats glory.

Baylor going to survive. Ku so close to beating Texas and baylor back to back.
Bluder and Clark = 0 class

I agree completely. Iowa took Clark out with something like 20 seconds so she could get an ovation. No problem with that. But Nebraska scores with 6 seconds left to still be 8 points down. Bluder reinsert Clatk and she drives and scores s basket as time expires! What class!

Toward the end of the Maryland game, one announcer asked the other about teams she thought were good (my words because I wasn’t really listening then) and she proceeded to talk up Iowa State big time.
I heard it too. It was Rebecca Lobo and she said she wouldn't be surprised if ISU was a final four team.

Individual stats are not irrelevant. I can see CBF leaving Ashley in when the game has been decided. She’s earned the right to pursue national recognition.

there is a health and ethical situation here. Seeking recognition (glory hunting) is far outweighed by being a good sport and maintaining the health of the players. Add to that the opportunity to let bench players gain experience.

In a recent Iowa WBB game, the Hawkeyes were up by 30 and Clark had 40 points. Bluder pulled her with about 3-4 minutes left but then put her back in so she could score four more points because that was a Hawkeye record. I think that showed poor sportsmanship because the points were meaningless to the game's outcome.

Records are somewhat meaningless unless they come in the important part of the flow of the game.- like Lafester's 54 points.

During this year's Cyclone game with Prairie View A&M the team was shooting lights out and had 17 three pointers through 3 quarters. Coach Fennelly could have left the starters in and had them try to break the record for three pointers but he pulled them and while the team did get two more three pointers to tie the record they were made by players who were not usually in the rotation.

Also I have seen numerous times at the end of a game when BF has instructed the players to hold a ball and get a time clock violation rather than putting up another shot.

Hopkins HS here is hosting a televised tournament Friday/Saturday on ESPNU. the four teams include the top three ranked teams in the country. Hopkins is coached by Tee Tee Starks mother. Article below covers the tournament in the broader context of Minnesota HS recruiting.

Bluder is a good coach and recruiter but her judgement is questionable as seems in this instance. Extraordinary intrastate rivalry with Iowa makes any criticism by an Iowa Stater sound like sour grapes. But I think a case can be made using the above, and others, as evidence.

I really like to see balanced scoring, at least among starters and first/second off the bench. That seems to me to be a better representation of a quality team. But what do I know? The only t-shirt I won in intramural was class D women’s broomball.

So you think Hunter should have went in for a layup as time expired in the men's game and ISU up 9 instead of just dribbling out the clock? Because that is basically what Clark did.

Tyrese is great in MBB, no doubt. And, maybe he will approach what Clark is to WBB on a national level.

The difference I see was not the score, it was in the instance where Clark's butt was put back in the game BECUASE it was discovered she was near a double-double with several seconds left.

Hunter was not seeking glorious stats (though it is accumulating) he was playing ball as time ran out: ethics, judgement and running up stats in MY opinion is where the difference arises.

It's not as big a deal as it may seem (though just pointing this out causes it to be more), real in-game stats can be over-inflated just to make Clark, who's a big deal already, a trifling bigger than life for the sake of notoriety,

I am not sure about first point but agree with second. Because of the second point I feel she is just another coach who IMHO is just average. She has had some good years but a few poor years and it has all came down to who she has had playing for her which what defines any coach.

No Big 12 games tonight but a couple maybe of interest on the Big 10 regular channel.

5:00 Maryland at Ohio State. See if they bounce back after getting badly thumped by Michigan.
7:00 Iowa at The Barn versus my local Gophers.

Game 1 Update: #12 Maryland drops to 4-3 in Big 10 play unranked Ohio State goes to 14-3 on the season.

Game 2 Update: Gophers, woof! Hawks going for 100 and just killing them. Looking like another triple-double for Clark and she is hitting threes. Whole team looks over their slump and have last years mojo back.

105-49. Just ugh.

It wasn't that ugly early but Gophers only scored 15 points in the 2nd half.

Would have been a game I would likely to have attended if I wasn't laying low with the Covid wildfire burning. Barn had a REALLY sparse crowd. Damn cold out, crappy season and COVID all play into that I guess. Sorta sad because Williams can be a fun venue with smart fans when the team doesn't suck.

Hawks had Feurbach playing the point some the last five minutes.

Wow. The Gophers just plain quit. I'm the first to say Lindsay was a great, great player, but...this coaching thing is just not her gig. Just no defense, or hustle anywhere. Losing by 56 at home to Iowa is pathetic.
Minn fans deserve better.

I watched most of second quarter. Decided that was enough. Made the mistake of being on the channel right after the game for the fawning over Caitlyn activities.
