WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Yikes, really, I mean really…once again fans never cease to amaze me….anybody remember Hampton.

This is “THE” exact example of why I don’t get why fans ever open their mouths. I still remember when Iowa was lost to Northwestern St, I would never call out another program about a number two seed losing to a 15 seed… I just don’t get it and that was one hell of an Iowa State team.
Geezus. You’ve referred to men’s games -you know, away from campus, on neutral courts? There’s a difference…you see it, right?
Iowa played a mediocre 10 seed Virginia team, in front of a packed Carver crowd - and looked terrible.
Every other #2 won their second round game by 40, 30, and 20 points.
They’re the worst 2 seed I’ve ever seen.

Whatever, how often does a 2 lose in the Women's NCAA on there home court. Like 3 times in History? The 51 pt UCLA beat down should have shown they were a weak 2 seed. Heck Okie St Women lost to UCLA in the round ofv32 on UCLA's floor by 19.

That’s fine. You can believe whatever you want. Doesn’t mean that you would love like hell to be a number two seed.

Does it suck sure it does but it happens

And yet beat Michigan (a 2 seed) by a combined 40 points, twice…You’re not gonna win an argument of information and data with me.

Are you aware of how many times a number 15 seat has beat a number two seed in men’s basketball… I do happen to know, do you?

Here’s where the rubber hits the highway… They were a two seed, historically they will go down in history of being a two seed. They will go down in history of being in the top 10 and quite frankly they still have all kinds of upside so you trying to poo poo it really probably says more about your fandom than anything, doesn’t it?

I know quite a few Iowa State fans I would never ever try to rub salt in their wounds that Hampton game sucked man. I remember it like it was yesterday. In fact, I was watching it with my uncle… I don’t wish that really on anybody even old school, Notre Dame and Nebraska fans and I’ve never cared for them….

I’m very happy with the season. I’m very happy to have the team we have and I’m very happy to have the Coach we have.

Terrible?! How would you know, did you watch it?

PS…. so you’re telling me the 11 times (it was the 4th time in 2001) in what?!? 40 some years that a 15 seed has beaten a two seed in the men’s tournament. So you’re super happy about being one of those 11.

You don’t need to answer either question. Quite frankly if you were watching it, then you were hate watching it and you wanted them to lose and you’re obviously going to tell yourself they looked terrible… Never mind it was a two overtime game…

And ultimately, nobody wants to be a top seed and lose. Let alone to a 15 seed… It was ignorant to bring it up. I just happen to be here to catch it. Do you happen to know what the spread was on that game for Iowa State vs Hampton…

I don’t remember right now, but I will find it… A quick Google search said they were a “massive favorite” meaning not a 13 1/2 point favorite. They were close to a 30 point favor and by the way, here’s what Coach Eustachy said after the game…
"It doesn't matter that we lost to Baylor and Hampton at the end," Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy said. "This was one of the best teams ever in Iowa. It just didn't go well at the end."

Let me help here….

Im an Iowa State fan who hates everything Iowa, & has decided Iowa as a two seed losing to number 10 seed Virginia is the worst two seed I’ve ever seen… Now there are no metrics or data actually to show that to be true and even though they were at home, they were still only a 13 point favorite lots of way bigger upsets in history than that but again I’m an Iowa State fan and I need this to be true…

Sound better….?

And here’s how you research a topic…. so you don’t just sound like a bitter fan. As I thought hell it’s happened to Iowa before the season before they went on their two-year trip to the final four.

You’ll note of all of these games. None of them were in two overtime and several of them were double digit defeats… So again your opinion is just that. An Iowa State fans opinion….

Key 10-over-2 Tournament Upsets:
  • 2026: No. 10 Virginia 83, No. 2 Iowa 75 (2 OT)
  • 2022: No. 10 South Dakota 61, No. 2 Baylor 47
  • 2022: No. 10 Creighton 64, No. 2 Iowa 62
  • 2017: No. 10 Oregon 74, No. 2 Duke 65
  • 2001: No. 10 Missouri 78, No. 2 Georgia 65

5 since 2001, 4 since 2017 & 3 since 2022. Once by Iowa in CCs sophomore year… I’m sure plenty of Iowa State fans were excited about that. And then they went to the championship game two years in a row…

Here’s to hoping that happens with this team lol

It will happen more and more as the women’s game grows and gains more popularity

My local Gopher gals are "only" 18.5 point underdogs vs #1 UCLA tonight. That was actually the final spread when they played earlier in conference play, 18 point loss at Minnesota. Gophers will need to shoot threes like they did at Iowa (71%) to keep it respectable. And that's probably unlikely. Still, will tune in watch the gals give it their shot.

Watching Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. Hannah Hidalgo already has seven steals in the first half. The Notre Dame defense is wrecking havoc on Vanderbilt so far.

Gophers hanging with UCLA at the half down only 34-29. UCLA hasn't been able to score much on the Gophers but their defense against the Gophers has been pretty intense.

Akot and Wooten. They have four other depth players going as well.

WBIT Semi-Finals - Monday, March 30:
BYU vs Kansas
Columbia vs Wisconsin

WNIT - Great 8 - 3/29 & 3/30
Montana State @ South Dakota
Army @ Marshall
George Washington @ Illinois State
Cleveland State @ Arkansas State

Here's an article from USA Today in February listing "hot names" as coaching candidates.
Destinee Rogers of Arkansas State is named early in the article, and she's facing former ISU Grad Assistant Chris Kielsmeier of Cleveland State (featuring Izzy Zingaro).

Akot with 2 previous years at UCF. Whiting originally committed to Oregon, then switched to BYU to follow her mom. 2 years there, 1 year at Okie St. One more to go...

Watching the UCLA Duke game. UCLA is a prime example of how the ISU offense is supposed to work. In the first half, Duke is doubling Betts and UCLA isn’t hitting jump shots. Guess what…Duke leads at half. Second half? UCLA is hitting their outside shots, Duke has to stop doubling Betts and UCLA dominates the third quarter 20-8 and takes the lead.
