WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Isn't this topic for non-Cyclone discussions? The-boneyard.com has the best womens basketball forum in the nation; all non-UConn threads: https://the-boneyard.com/forums/general-womens-basketball.83/. They invite other teams' fans to visit and discuss.

It's exactly why I started the thread. If peeps wanta troll and post juvenile insults we have a rival forum for it. I will add I overestimated the maturity of some of our fans.

And for Cyclone team stuff we have a dedicated general season thread and a whole host of weekly threads.

And good suggestion on the Bone Yard. Lurked on occasion but have decided to sign up. Already on the Gopher Hole but not much to talk about there the last few seasons.

IUPUI cruising into the Horizon League Tournament Finals tomorrow. Madison Wise has fit in so well with that team all year. Really hope IUPUI can get the win after not getting to play in the 2020 tournament that was canceled due to COVID, and then getting upset in the conference tournament finals last year. Thought Cyclone fans would be interested in this!

As a bonus for all you Iowa haters -- IUPUI is the team that embarrassed Iowa in the 4Q back in December. ;)

So you're saying it doesn't make sense to include Indiana when discussing the top Big Ten teams when Indiana:

a. just knocked off 4-seed Maryland in the conference tournament
b. then knocked off 1-seed Ohio State
c. have the 3rd best NET in the conference (as of me posting this)
d. are ranked 15th in the AP Poll
e. are a projected 4-seed in the NCAA tournament

Yup, that makes sense.
And they all still belong to the worst P5 conference in the country.

Here's hoping they win the final, grab a 10 seed, and get put in the Ames sub-region. But with their 67 NET ranking, 10 might be slightly too high.

I feel like being sent to Bloomington as the 12-seed is a more straightforward choice for IUPUI, but the committee has been known to go out of their way to create storylines, such as a player playing against their former team. I think if IUPUI were to be sent to Ames, that would unfortunately mean ISU has dropped to a 3-seed (IUPUI being an 11-seed in that scenario).

IUPUI opponent tomorrow, Cleveland State's Head Coach (Chris Kielsmeier) is an Iowa State Grad and got his start in coaching working with the ISU WBB team when he was a student at ISU.

Yet the Big 12 Champ Baylor lost to two Big Ten teams. And those two teams (Michigan and Maryland) didn't even advance out of the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. So believe whatever you need to to get through the season! :p

IMO the top 9-10 teams or so of the Big Ten are about on par with other conferences. It's the dungeon dwellers who are god awful this year, led by Illinois and Wisconsin in the NET 200's.

For all of the "every conferences except the Big 12 sucks, especially the Big 10", peeps.

You started the thread to discuss non-Cyclone women’s basketball topics, but that’s not the same as inviting Hawk fans to enter and run amuck. None of us goes to Hawk Report and discusses Lexi Donarski or the misfortunes of the fifth place team in the Big XII. Not trying to be rude, but I don’t come here to read the opinions of Hawk fans, even semi-respectful versions.

When the dust settles (Sweet Sixteen onward) this breakdown will be invaluable as to projection vs results.

For league versus league discussion, looking at their top teams (those selected to host as of last week):
  • As of last reveal both the Big 12 and Big 10 have four home court hosting setups to get teams to the Sweet Sixteen.
  • Big 12 has most in the #2 +/- seeding.
  • ACC has two #1 seeds but only those two in the 16. A slew outside of that but talking the 16 here.
  • SEC has the #1 and overall numbers for teams in but some aren't top seeds and only two others in the 16.
  • PAC has a slew of teams in but only two hosting, but one of those is a #1.

Sidebar: Sooners are on the hosting bubble and might be the Big 12 team with the most at stake this week and that impacts the bullets above. One and done and they might be outside the 16, at least I think they would be out. Sort of where I thought Indiana was (out) but they played good prove it ball and likely keep their 16 spot.
