Gilbert often fell into old habits of not sharing the ball. Barnes stated on multiple occasions that she understood that it was how Gilbert had played for most of her life simply because she had to on previous teams, but said that it would not work at this level.
Gilbert made it clear in conversations with the media that she still did not like playing defense, which is a requirement to play for Barnes. Several weeks ago, Barnes said that players would play both offense and defense or they would “rot on the bench.”

Have to respect a coach who won’t let the players run the program. A friend of mine got into a CC conversation. I mentioned I didn’t like her whining. He said I’d like it if she played for ISU. I said at ISU it wouldn’t happen or she’d be on the bench. He laughed. I said go watch film of what happened to the one who shall not be named. I've often thought that CC reminds me of that person.

I’ll let them have it as they are going to be battling LSU for 2nd/3rd/4th every year behind South Carolina. Happy trails to them.
Nothing left to prove and the team around her likely isn’t getting any further than what we saw last year. NIL is a non factor as it will follow her. Will also give her a chance to focus on the Olympics as well.
Also, if she's still dating Connor McCaffrey, he's a team assistant for the Indiana Pacers -- the Indiana Fever hold the #1 WNBA draft pick. I'm not saying that's a sole reason to skip year 5, but it doesn't hurt.
Just for clarification - McCaffrey is an intern - not an assistant - that is why he is able to be in IC so much.
