Are we even sure Iowa made money on WBB when Caitlyn Clark was there?? I know they brought in more revenue but it sounds like they didn't break evenI'm not suggesting we are cutting WBB but lets be honest, it's a money loser and the Caitlin Clark effect is unique to Caitlin Clark. The sport is going to be what it is and the players need to understand that.
Huge difference in ticket revenue compared to men. Iowa men’s tickets average 350 per. Women’s tickets are 210 and they sell youth tickets for $100 which the men’s program doesn’t offer. Are we even sure Iowa made money on WBB when Caitlyn Clark was there?? Probably blew it all on the stupid fire and smoke machines. I been in the sink hole for the last two WBB games. The get loud announcements over PA to G up the crowd, the smoke and fire machines... whole atmosphere seems manufactured. Are we even sure Iowa made money on WBB when Caitlyn Clark was there?? Stanford is a cautionary tale for them. ACC move definitely made that worse, but UCONN could end up in a Stanford+ situation if they aren’t careful. Now UConn will be interesting. Geno can coach and recruit, better than anyone ever. Geno built that from nothing and than SUSTAINED it all on reputation. Post-Geno they will have to be in the money game bigtime to stay as an elite. It's not like there wll be league money to help in the Big East, it ain't nothing without UConn.
Everyone you listed is looking for $200k + and are top 20 players in the portal…Any rumors of WBB players who've visited ISU or are otherwise being recruited from the portal? I heard we swung and missed with Gal Raviv (Miami) and Rachael Rose (Clemson), which would suggest CBF is looking for more guards.
I think we need a veteran leader, scoring balance and more interior rebounding, so I've got my heart set on a power forward. There are a number of good ones out there but I've become enamored of Laura Ziegler from St. Josephs. She's from Denmark so she'd have Freya Jensen to talk to / mentor. On the negative side, she prefers European style basketball with movement and cuts to the basket, which isn't ISU style with present personnel.
Any rumors of CBF contacting any of the plentiful PF's out there? Serah Williams (Wisconsin), Janiah Barker (UCLA) and Sa'Myah Smith (LSU) are probably not interested in ISU. TCU got Marta Suarez from Cal (previously Tennessee). Breya Cunningham signed with Vic at Texas, though I didn't see much when Audi pushed her around last season. I hope we've at least put out feelers to Ziegler - she's the missing piece that allows us to challenge those quickly rebuilt Baylor and TCU squads.
This is going to be the crux of trying to get another player. We need to pay the players we have that we need to keep & we brought in Jada, a pretty splashy commit on her own. We need a role player, not a starter, and those typically aren't exactly going to just shine on the page.Everyone you listed is looking for $200k + and are top 20 players in the portal…

The roster needs a starter to join Jada W, Hare, Brown and Crooks. Harris and Tanke both need to significantly improve defensively to start. Jackson lacks the length to be a 3rd starting guard with Hare and Jada. Maybe Jensen at 5-10 can start if she is good enough but got to find that 5th starter (over 6-0 preferred) in order to compete for the conference title. This is going to be the crux of trying to get another player. Jackson is going to start. There's no use to act otherwise. She's the best defender we have, she isn't going to be coming off the bench. The roster needs a starter to join Jada W, Hare, Brown and Crooks. Can't compete for the conference title with her starting. A 5-8, 5-9, 5-9 starting backcourt trio playing extended minutes isn't going to cut it.Jackson is going to start. There's no use to act otherwise. She's the best defender we have, she isn't going to be coming off the bench.
I understand the concern. But not sure how a 5'11" player is going to make all the difference vs. Jackson. IMO a small ball/3 guard lineup could work if CBF was aggressive with guards crashing the boards. Can't compete for the conference title with her starting. I guess I did a poor job of communicating. In my mind, I was dismissing the top five PF's from consideration in my post, as they wouldn't be interested in ISU, are already headed elsewhere or would be too expensive. In my thought process, a one-year rental from a mid-major is the best we can do. This isn't the first time I've brought up Ziegler, as I've read articles suggesting she'd be a strong role player on a P5 squad, plus there's the Danish connection. If we contacted Raviv & Rose from other mid-majors, who were initially ranked higher up the portal list, why would Ziegler be out of reach.Serah Williams - UConn, LSU or UNC
Sa'Myah Smith - committed to UVA
Janiah Barker - who's coming up with the $$$$
I agree that we need a PF. Ideally someone long and fairly athletic. We could use help on defense. If they can spread the floor a little and rebound I would take that too.Any rumors of WBB players who've visited ISU or are otherwise being recruited from the portal? Hmm I kind of like that Bristow gal from TTechI agree that we need a PF. Ideally someone long and fairly athletic. We could use help on defense. If they can spread the floor a little and rebound I would take that too.
did she enter the portal again or are you making a joke?Hmm I kind of like that Bristow gal from TTech![]()
I e felt the same way for weeks and mentioned a few that weren’t big dollar names but had shown they could perform. I trust the staff is vetting and looking. Just getting antsy to see what they pull off. Suspect last year left them a bit more on the doing due diligence twice side of thingsI guess I did a poor job of communicating. Lastly, there are many other younger PF's in the transfer portal, some of them highly ranked when initially recruited, and I specifically asked, "any rumors of CBF contacting any of the plentiful PF's out there?"
I see PF as the missing piece, but what do I know? CBF might not see it as a need at all. I'm just trying to determine if we're actively pursuing a "big" or standing pat.
They had to know of Hare's injury, right? They must have been betting that it would heal. Harris was a bit less productive than I would have hoped. Hansford was just a complete whiff on. So, shooting 50% and could go to 66% or down to 33% depending on Hare next year.I e felt the same way for weeks and mentioned a few that weren’t big dollar names but had shown they could perform.
