Ziegler has visited Louisville and Oregon both paying top $$ for a forward/post.I guess I did a poor job of communicating. In my mind, I was dismissing the top five PF's from consideration in my post, as they wouldn't be interested in ISU, are already headed elsewhere or would be too expensive. In my thought process, a one-year rental from a mid-major is the best we can do. This isn't the first time I've brought up Ziegler, as I've read articles suggesting she'd be a strong role player on a P5 squad, plus there's the Danish connection. If we contacted Raviv & Rose from other mid-majors, who were initially ranked higher up the portal list, why would Ziegler be out of reach.
Lastly, there are many other younger PF's in the transfer portal, some of them highly ranked when initially recruited, and I specifically asked, "any rumors of CBF contacting any of the plentiful PF's out there?"
I see PF as the missing piece, but what do I know? CBF might not see it as a need at all. I'm just trying to determine if we're actively pursuing a "big" or standing pat.
I love Arianna Jackson and would love to see her start at the #2, with Hare coming off the bench for instant offense. I don't believe we can compete for a conference title with both Jackson and Hare starting. We need length, athleticism and rebounding to free Addy and cover for Audi's limitations.Humbly disagree. Thank you for the info - do you have a premium membership at a different site or are you just great at web searches? I spent fifteen minutes this afternoon trying t find ANY info on visits by Ziegler and Kelsey Joens, coming up empty!Ziegler has visited Louisville and Oregon both paying top $$ for a forward/post.

I expected Ziegler was a long shot - she's been "alpha" at St. Joseph's for several years and probably wouldn't want to be third choice at ISU. I just hope we're looking at somebody in the SF / PF position, and if given a choice, I'd opt for a "banger" over a slender defender like Nyamer Diew or Kiersten Johnson. We're presently assembled under a "power" rather than "speed" model, so we might as well continue down that road...
It’s nothing against Jackson, the starting unit sorely needs a 3&D player with length at the 3.Humbly disagree. She's a gamer.
LOL, somebody else can pick that tab up. I'm a fairly diehard ISU WBB fan, filling the lower bowl and 6 sections in the balcony isn't worth a $200,000 mercenary.Everyone you listed is looking for $200k + and are top 20 players in the portal…
Would you have taken 5' 6" Maya McDermot? Can't compete for the conference title with her starting. A 5-8, 5-9, 5-9 starting backcourt trio playing extended minutes isn't going to cut it.
I don’t think this is about her height individually. I would rather see Jackson start and Hare come off the bench to avoid what they are saying.Would you have taken 5' 6" Maya McDermot?
Or
5' 6" Rori Harmon
Yes, for the 1 and 2 spots but not to fill the 3 spot with length (6 ft +) & athleticism while being a threat from the arc.Would you have taken 5' 6" Maya McDermot?

I get your point - thanksYes, for the 1 and 2 spots but not to fill the 3 spot with length (6 ft +) & athleticism while being a threat from the arc.
To the extent that rebounding is a concern for a group that small, I think it's worth sharing that Iowa State's defensive rebounding numbers last season were fantastic. It was a stat that really surprised me when I saw it, because it sometimes didn't feel that way.
Per Barttorvik, Iowa State's defensive rebounding percentage was #3 in the country (link), and in Big 12 play, it was #1 in the conference (link).
Ryan and Joens were good rebounders for guards, but Jada Williams actually had a defensive rebounding rate nearly identical to Joens's (despite being 5'6"). So, if the roster doesn't change, I think there would be a step back due to primarily Ryan's minutes getting replaced by a poorer rebounder. But a step back would constitute going from one of the several best in the country to merely being well above average.
And you know this because you are currently a P-5 wbb coachCan't compete for the conference title with her starting. A 5-8, 5-9, 5-9 starting backcourt trio playing extended minutes isn't going to cut it.
Yea, IMO our bigger issue was offensive rebounds. Not sure what the exact stats were, but in games the ladies lost they struggled on the offensive boards. Seems like our staff makes it a point of emphasis to not crash the offensive boards and get defenders back.

I would agree with Crooks, but Kelsey was fast enough to try for a rebound before running back, hopefully Hare and Jada can do that too. I think Brown, Harris, and maybe Jackson (she did have an ankle injury most of the year) are too slow to try for a rebound and get back into defensive position. With Crooks, don't they have to play that way?

I think (but admittedly do not know) that Coach has Addy and Audi typically not rebound on freethrows by Iowa State because it gives them a chance to rest and catch their breaths for a few seconds and not have to run back after the freethrows. They can walk to the other end of the court and rest during the freethrows The chance of an offensive rebound on a freethrow is very remote.I think ideally they would like to shoot a little higher percentage, thus limiting the number of opportunities for offensive rebounds. The one thing I cant figure out is on free throws why Addy would ever need to be the one to hang back.
