Walking Dead

Was starting to like Carl and now hate him more than ever. Not sure if the low point was saying Rick could just die or mentioning Shane.

I liked the episode. People can call it a Carl episode, but I think it was more a Michonne/ Carl episode. Both were contemplating life on their own and both decided they didn't want to do that. Michonne had done it before and didn't want to do it again.

Also, the scene where her husband and friend go from cheery to eventually becoming the walkers we first see her with was very cool. We finally get to learn more about who Michonne is.

I was pretty disappointed in this episode, not to mention having to wait what seemed like forever for it. Carl is just not a likable character. Rick has been mostly annoying the last few seasons, too, maybe with the exception of his monologue at the end of the midseason finale.

Carl should absolutely be dead by now - the first couple seasons we constantly had Rick / Lori asking "Where's Carl?" because they never kept him nearby even though there are flesh-eating monsters everywhere. Now, the kid is still stupid. Just die already.

This episode was almost as boring as the opener to this season, which was all the pointless backstory about the Governor.

The one part I did find a little interesting was the part with Michonne in her apartment.

Current characters I would like to see eaten by walkers:
1) Carl
.....
2) Glen (turned in to a little whiner instead of the quick, confident dude who could sneak in and out of places in ATL)
3) sissy Rick

Current characters I would like to see more of:
1) Daryl
2) Carol (her character was developing nicely until Rick excommunicated her)
3) Michonne
4) Maggie's sister
5) The two girls Carol was taking care of
6) Badass leader Rick

If you listened carefully lastnight, Rick said he clung to the old way of life for Carl. Its not going to work anymore. Things are going to change quickly for those two.

I think the idea of father/son drama is a good thing, but neither actor is good enough to make you want to watch them for long periods of time and that's especially true for the kid that plays Carl.

Why a whole episode of Rick and Carl? they threw us a little Michone, but how about some Glen and Maggie?

I think they're devoting full episodes to the survivors separately.

Sort of like when KISS put out individual LPs. Some will be good (Gene) and some will be bad (Peter).

Never really understood this about Glenn, but have seen it before. He basically became an actual character with actual human motivations, now people don't like him? I didn't give two ***** about him before when he wasn't a real character. Kinda like T-Dog, did anyone care about him? He'd have a line here and there and kill walkers. That was it.

Agree that I am ready to see Rick move on... I think this episode was all about him letting go of the possibility of Carl leading a more normal life. He can't be a kid, he has to be a zombie killing survior... the scene where Carl went to the kids room with the awesome guitar, TV, and video games underscored that that life is over.

Agree 100% with this. I feel like they were stuck with him because he had the look or something that they wanted for the first season. But, when they actually need the kid to act, he's just bad. He kind of reminds me of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker.

I think they could have developed Glenn and made him a useful character without making him into a whiny little scaredy-cat.

Agree here.

"Cool cool cool cool."

How should a kid his age act if this were real life and not fiction? To me he seems like a very confussed kid in a really tough situation. He is trying to be grown up but is still just a kid.

I mean his actual acting is bad. His behavior is stupid, yeah, but that's the character, apparently. I'm saying the kid is not a good actor.

I think the first eight episodes will go deeper into how the various individuals deal. We just got Carl episode off the docket.

After giving it some thought, I'm backing off on disliking Carl so much. Especially after the last five minutes last night.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Carl is (or is close to being) a teenage boy, with all the testosterone surges implied in puberty; his voice is droppiing - did anyone else notice? I have a lot of experience with teenage boys...I called our home "the house of testosterone"...four teenage boys, hubby & me.

Part of being a juvenile or near-adult male in nearly any mammalian society/family is challenging the alpha male. Carl is not just approaching manhood, he's being forced to make adult choices before his psyche is really ready. Part of him is going to slip back into the sulky little boy mode from time to time. I think I was just disappointed because the first show out of the gate this winter focused on two of my least favorite characters.

Carl is awesome, he's a straight up Leroy Jenkins of the zombie apocalypse. This season finale will likely end in him eating chicken.

I think the kid that plays Carl is getting pretty good. He was not very good in the first few seasons but he is evolving into a pretty fine actor. I think the haters just don't like the character...which is fine with me but I think the kids acting is improving in a pretty dramatic rate.

Also, Maggie's sister is still smoking hot...can't get enough of her. Screw rioting if Daryl dies...I'm rioting if she does.
