Visiting Hilton for the first time...Suggestions?

Don't worry you won't get to do the chant Monday. This is not the cyclone teams of old.
They didn't even do the chant last year because the KU fans at Hilton knew they might just be beaten to death if they did. I hope we just destory KU and they all walk out Hilton like they had something shoved up their collective *****.

I am ashamed I forgot the name. I always wondered if there was a Fox 2, thereby necessitating the 1 in "Fox 1."

Another Jayhawk fan here that was just reading through the thread.

First, all my respect for Johnny Orr. I think everyone liked Johnny. There is no doubt that he will be missed.

Second, as far as the "Fox 1" Lounge, it's possible that whoever named the place was a combat pilot. In air combat a pilot will call "Fox 1" on the radio to indicate that he launched a radar missile. "Fox 2" indicates a heat-seeking missile, and "Fox 3" indicates that the pilot is firing guns. Just throwing it out there.

Looking forward to a great game on Monday!

I wanna say it was September or late August

I think that's right, too. The old British Foods grocery that was on Lincoln Way is in there now.

Well, that's genius. I never have heard that before! Thanks!

Just have fun! Hilton is one of the best unknown secrets in college bball. Even when we suck, Hilton is great but having a top ten team makes our arena that much better! Have a clone cone for sure, welch ave is fun for partying after but keep in mind lots of drunk college kids you'll probably get crap with KU gear on. Come back and let us know how your first Hilton experience was!

In terms of parking, the hotel I'm staying at says it's only 1.3mi away from ISU campus so I was hoping to just be able to walk from there instead of dealing with arena parking.

I wouldn't recommend walking, both in terms of general safety late at night if you are drinking (a guy got hit and killed on US 30 after the KU football game) and especially if you are wearing KU gear (which is bound to attract negative attention).

Parking is free in the public lot (west side of big lot). Better to drive to the game and back to the hotel. Then use a hotel shuttle or cab from your hotel.

Frankly, I wouldn't expect you to have a very good time at a local club unless you have really thick skin and like being the antagonist (which it sounds like you might). Do you recognize how much we dislike KU basketball in Ames? Win or lose, ISU fans really won't want to have you around.

This place has been around since last fall and no one started a thread on it. I've lost all faith in this message board. My world is crumbling.

Thanks for stopping by. Kansas is my second favorite team behind ISU by far.

You mention after game drinks. There's a lot of nice places in Ames, but I think you'd be remiss if you didn't take a trip down to Des Moines. It's not Chicago, but it's going to feel a lot more like that than Ames. There's a place I like to go when I'm in the area, a nice little out of the way place, but has a good atmosphere and the feel of a larger city 'secret spot', plus their bartenders all know their stuff, unlike a lot of Ames places where it's "ehh...dump it in a cup, the college kids will drink it."

Check it out, it's called "Big Earl's Goldmine"...kind of a goofy name, I know, but it started from more humble beginnings, but the owner has kept improving it over time.

I would like to change my answer to Clonecone at Big Earl's Goldmine

I felt like I was reading a transcript from an old Bruce Lee movie.
I love your Cyclones haha... But my Jayhawks WILL prevail haha... Let me have your women haha... They will fall to my false manners haha...

You staying overnight? Try the Grove Cafe on Main St. for breakfast. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall, but serves the biggest and best pancakes in town. You'll have to wait in line though.

I only read the first page, but I kinda like this guy. That doesn't make me a bad person, does it?
He seemed cool until he tried to convince us that the RockChok chant is the best chant ever and we should embrace it with the KU fans.

This is first game back for the semester for students. They have been on good behavior at the parents and will have a lot of bad behavior to release.

This. I expect a very hostile crowd Monday night because of this and the way last years game went down. Btw does anybody know who is on call for ESPN? I imagine it is Musberger and Fraschilla again but I never saw anywhere confirming that.
