NFL: Vick to Eagles

Yup, Eagles just added another elite athlete... Hobbs, Maclin, that rookie RB that's name is slipping my mind, Vick,

If I'm McNabb, Im not threatened. I think everyone knows that he isn't coming in to be a starter. Afterall, they don't even know his suspension yet. This just gives the offense more options, and the defenses more headaches.... like Westbrook wasn't enough...

LeSean McCoy.

LMAO!

I can't wait to hear McNabb react to this. He was quite upset (as well as his mommy) over the Kolb signing - this should be epic!

IMO, the Eagles looked to have a great shot at winning the NFC East this season with certain moves they made this offseason. However, this has the potential to really tear the team apart.

McNabb will be fine. I bet the Eagles talked to him before the signing and he will be ok.

And I really doubt that it tears the team apart. They have a good franchise and say what you want about Vick, but he isn't the kind of guy who is going to ***** about much....especially at this point in his career

Yep, I highly doubt the Eagles would have signed Vick without talking to McNabb first.

Why would they talk to him before signing the guy? They have not done it in the past.

And I agree it won't be Vick that tears the team apart. But McNabb, should he gripe a ton and allow this to distract him, certainly could. And/or, first sign of trouble with McNabb and the fans (and some players certainly) will be howling to see what Vick can do.

Vick could certainly fit in well in that offense. Already used to having a mobile QB. Plenty of speedy guys at receiver and a back that can carry the load and bail ya out in the passing game.

I think he probably fits in as well there as any place because of the style of play - but it'll be extremely interesting to see how much they actually use him.

For that kind of money and just the baggage of having him on the team, you know that they know they'll have to get a value out of him - thus he's going to have to contribute quite a bit by the 2/3rd point in the season.

I really like this move for the Eagles...Vick wasn't going to start at QB anywhere this year. They added a great athlete that can come in for some gimmick packages, and his versatility coupled with Westbrooks versatility running and catching the ball will be a great combo if they chose to put them on the field together at times. You could theoretically put Vick and Jackson on the edges and let Maclin run the slot...and you would be hard pressed to find a more athletic receiving core than that.

As a Eagles fan, I am excited about this move.

On the human side of the issue, it makes me not want to cheer for him.

That kind of money? They're paying him just north of $1 million for the first season. In this day and age that's chump change. And the second year is OPTIONAL (the operative word here) at just north of $5 million (plus a chance of $3 million in incentives). In other words, Vick's gonna have to prove himself valuable in order to make "the kind of money" you have a problem with.

Do you think they got him....possibly for trade value down the road? Like the Broncos with horrible Orton and Simms at QB.....they could trade to a team like that next year that will NEED a QB.....thus they would get trade value? Right? I just don't see him playing at all in Philly. Well, at least at the QB position this year. They got him so cheap.

I'm betting that was in the back of their minds.

Interesting how most of the uninformed initial posts in this thread had incorrect speculation about this matter.

At the end of the day, Vick paid a damn high price...2 years in the slammer. Stallworth got about 25 days for killing a guy while driving drunk. I certainly think Vick got what he deserved and Stallworth deserved more.

I certainly don't condone what Vick did...it is almost hard to believe that a human being could be so cruel. As a dog owner it almost makes you ill to think about what he did.

But I think he does deserve a second chance...and make no mistake the NFL is about winning FB games...not keeping PETA happy. To the extent Vick can help his team win FB games he will have a job.

I also saw Vick's news conference and it appears the guy did some serious thinking in the slammer. His comments were unscripted and from the heart IMO. Obviously, everyone will be watching to see if his actions back up his words.

I agree 100%. What he did was disgusting, but he did pay the price for it. Now he gets to move on with his life.

The one caller that SportsCenter was playing that said, "What has he done to pay for his crimes," well, he did his prison time, whatever fines that were mandated, pretty much served his sentence.

We'll see pretty soon whether he's really a different man or not, but he has a second chance for that.
