Can’t remember what board I read this on - might’ve been this one or Intermat - but someone asked why Jax was wrestling senior level at the Open and Bo opted for U20, and one of the first comments was something along the lines of “Bo has a brand to protect” and I think that sums it up pretty nicely. Both are 18, will turn 19 this year, with one more year of high school left. After Jax registered at senior level for this, I was surprised that Bo stayed at U20.
Bo will be wrestling seniors in a couple of weeks at WTTs trying to make the team. He isn’t really dodging competition, just opted for U20’s this weekend and had plenty of good kids in that bracket. Jax is an anomaly. The kid is a scoring machines and his long frame works perfectly for his style. 65kg both U20’s and senior level seems to always have some of the deepest brackets.

That doesn’t explain his freestyle success, which is age based.

He’s 18 and and got 3rd at U20. Only loss to a guy who’s an all American that’s spent two years in a college room.
Wasn’t even referring to his freestyle success. Point is he theoretically could’ve graduated high school in 2024. If you don’t think age plays a factor in his success you are a fool.

Can always count on you to defend Iowa guys.

Can always count on you to chub up anytime Iowa comes up. Tell us again how they are broke and don’t have other donors. Lol

Does not factor into freestyle as it is all age based. If you don’t understand that, you’re the fool. He will be U20 again next year.

David Carr graduated HS at 19 and no one seemed to care about that. He did ok. Heck, Cody Chittum also graduated at 19 and then took a gap year on top of it.

Not that it matters but Chittum was 19 when graduating from HS. He was scheduled to be 20 but reclassified to graduate a year early then grey shirted. He turned 22 a month ago.

So how did ISU wrestlers do at the open?
I thought Kane N. & Koester both had good tournaments with some solid wins and are on the upswing. Castillo was allowing guys to get to his legs a little too much for my liking. Will be interesting to see if he is a good Folkstyle scrambler. I still think Meza is a 125 pounder next year. He seemed a little small and never had enough leg attacks. Didn’t wrestle bad but never looked like he has developed much since the last time I saw him.

Won’t he be 20 before he even starts classes at Iowa?

It's actually August 25. Many of the best are 19-20 when they hit college now. Chittum was old I know that
Better tell the DSM Register that.

Many of the best are 19-20 when they hit college now? I can’t think of any that were 20, definitely not many.
