unbelievable watch this

And for the record, I would expect nothing less from the parents and lawyer of this kid to claim serious physical harm when a rug burn is all that occurred.

Douchebaggery is an equal opportunity character flaw. It could very well be that the parents and the lawyer are douchebags.

But that doesn't mean the officer can't be a d-bag, too.

Because deep down in places we don't talk about at parties, doesn't everyone have a little d-bag inside of us?

That's a good take. Pretty much where I'm at. The kid was a brat and disruptive, absolutely. But the penalty for her actions is not the level of force that the cop displayed. She should not escape punishment for the incident, but neither should the cop.

Which I think is really where the "well if they would have just complied" attitude fails. They are completely missing the point and actually being more irrational than anyone else.

I bet there wont be any outrage over the principal that was body slammed to the ground by a student this morning... Well, at any liberal sites.

why do you think that? And do you have a link to the story?

I'm not disagreeing that the cop used more force than necessary. I feel bad for these cops anymore. They have a difficult job to do and everybody now tapes their actions and critiques them (Like on this board). I'm guessing most of you haven't had to have a job where you needed to subdue or use force to stop a situation. I have and when you get to that point you stop the situation as fast as possible. If you sit and gauge how much force is required that is when you could get hurt. Put them down fast and get the situation over with. (I know this is a teenage girl) I don't think he should have lost his job. He should've had a consequence but losing the job is to much. The girl isn't hurt use it as a teaching moment and move on. What kids learned from this is that the police can't do anything to them to make them stop so why are they going to. Society lost today.

how much force would you use on a bratty kid not following rules (notice I didn't use laws)?

Hard question. Probably what I think I could get away with using plus another half of that to make sure I get the job done without getting hurt or anyone else hurt. I hope that odd equation makes sense. This isn't a game. If a cop gets called in its time to be serious.

I agree with this. The teacher and school administrators tried to defuse the situation and it was unsuccessful.

My kids are not immune from a spanking (if all else fails) at home / in public / wherever if they aren't following rules. The last thing I want are for my kids to be "those kids".

Caution LOUD NSFW language right off the bat:

Edit: I should also mention that I have only had to spank my 2 kids a total of 3 times, and only at home. Because I've had to resort to physical punishment does not mean I don't love them.

I'm struggling to find the relevance of the video.

physical harm and actions are deserving because the kid is a punk?

not sure what you are compensating for.... but you're doing a bang up job. And hopefully you are not coaching or teaching any young people ..... they will see an adult that is reactionary versus conscious with thought/action.

Oh, I would never actually be the one to do something like this. I'd feel pretty guilty after doing so. Any poster who knows me irl knows that I'm actually a very caring person who wouldn't hurt a fly.

As for you always trying to paint me out to be some *******, it's not working, as I'm used to you, for whatever reason, having issues with me.

A poster earlier hit the nail on the head. The girl had the greatest defense of all - give up the phone, do as the principal or teacher asks, and none of this ever happens.

As for physical harm, she had a rug burn. Not exactly the worlds worst thing to happen to a delinquent.

FWIW: I've raised two kids, never spanked them, and never had anything similar to the incident depicted on your video (boy hitting his mother and speaking to her with obscenities).

FWIW #2: I come from a long line of spankers. My parents were spanked as kids, and I was spanked as a kid. It ended with me.

I don't really care about the officer. It's more the student being a brat that has me riled up and people standing up for her.

I think there is a lot of room to both (1) think the girl deserved some punishment and perhaps arrest depending on the circumstances, and also (2) think the officer overreacted and escalated the situation far beyond what he needed to do to handle things in an appropriate manner. So criticizing the cop is not as much standing up for the girl as it is standing up for the type of law enforcement that we as a society should use.

exactly. Very well put. Both parties bear responsibility. The girl for being disruptive, and the cop for an excessive response to the situation. There is plenty of room for both parties to be blamed for something.

so we should expect to cops be escalators that don't defuse, and to take anything they say in any context seriously (breaking rules... not laws)

Agree.
