At least we also defeated the #9 ranking jinx. I am fine with them sliding us back to #10/#11 and we probably deserve it.
At worst I think we'll remain idle in the polls. Probably go up 1 spot. That was not a great game, but aside from a few flukey plays, we beat them in many aspects. A win while playing at best your C game shouldn't result in ranking slippage IMO

We had no right winning this one, but I will take it.

On the 2 PT conversion, I still believe Rocco called that play himself, and just said "F*** It!!!! I'm taking it myself!!!!". He had that self confidence in his rushing tonight.

I've said it before, and still believe it, he will be better than Purdy when all is said and done for him in 2026/2027.
A team that battled back the way they did had every right to win. They earned it.

I thought it was strange at first, but after thinking about it a second I just thought I don't know what's going on on that sideline. They might not have had a play lined up, they may have been out of sorts and needed to take a breath. Maybe they thought their best chance was to not rush things and get in the exact play they wanted. Trust the motherfucking process, you know?
Yes, it all worked out. My thought process there is the defense is on their heels and the clock had already stopped momentarily to move the chains. I just though it was a really bad decision to waste an entire down for about 4 seconds of clock.

1:05 was plenty of time imo and they didn't need to clock it.

It seems like there might have been a big going through the team. Harklau said Tyler Miller was throwing up throughout one drive. Noel sounded like he had horrible acid reflux in the post game interview on CF. Higgens looked gassed after Rocco missed him on the last drive. Rocco looked gassed after the TD.

I think they spiked it to catch your breath and not make a stupid mistake. The previous play they ran without spiking it resulted in a bad looking play and basically a throwaway.

After the 62 yard performance, K Ferentz has Jacurri Brown on speed dial with another $600K offer to lead his vaunted “punting is winning” offense.

Who can do the calculus on the Iowa-is-a-playoffs-team for me now?

That's all understandable, in that situation though the only thing that mattered was picking up a first down and moving the chains or the game was over.

I just think only giving yourself 3 chances instead of 4 has seriously diminished your odds of extending the drive though. It all worked out in the end, I just thought it was a really weird decision.

Stat wise, Rocco didn't have a great game throwing the ball. Missed some big plays. Dude is a leader, and I love he is our QB. He didn't get too down and kept getting back up after big hits and missed throws.

Rylan Barnes, you are a dude.

Carson Hansen, please be healthy.

Bye week comes at a great time.

Jontez Williams, ball hawk.

Lol at UCF fans crying at that PI call. Like you didn't get away with 3 of those and 2 late hits earlier in the game.
Seemed like more than 2 late hits.

Next week, BYU plays UCF, and Indiana plays Washington. If BYU and Indiana win and go to 8-0, and there are no big upsets in the top 10, they may both jump over ISU.
Just win it all and control what we can control.

Hope Utah can upset BYU and Indiana will
have to play the Spartans, Wolverines and Buckeyes

Gutted out a huge win, but wow, whoever called that spike with 1:05 left to waste a down has some serious explaining to do.
I was surprised by the spike call but I didn't get too upset. With only one minute left and the clock running from the 20 yard line, no timeouts, and the game hanging in the balance, the next few play calls would absolutely decide who the winner would be.

Obviously, we knew we wouldn't be punting or kicking a field goal on 4th down, so we still had 3 plays to get the 1st down or the touchdown.

The spike gave us a chance to get our composure and think carefully about the next few play calls. Was it the right decision? Probably not, but I'm not gonna be too critical. The result was good.

I think with the fatigue, the odds of missed communication and a 3rd pick was pretty high.

Yeah, they traded a down to stop the clock, after a pass play that gained significant yards and they had to rush the team to get set at the line. I can see criticizing the call with the time remaining, but it wasn’t the worst call.

If ISU ended up running out of downs there to lose, we’d all be really upset about the wasted down. If ISU rushed a play there and turned over the ball to lose, we’d be upset about the rushed play. It was a strategy choice (like dozens of others during any game) and this time it worked out for the good guys.
