Tyrese Hunter Appreciation Thread

Good point this would be Monte if Kane hadn't transferred in possibly.

I think Monte puts up bigger numbers if Kane isn’t here and would have been in running for B12 freshman of the year.

They are different players. Monte was more fundamentally sound in nearly every aspect (compared to almost any freshman I’ve seen), even as a defender in some ways in spite of playing on a less defense oriented team. Hunter is stronger, bigger, more athletic. They both have incredible focus and maturity for 18yo kid.

A little Cyclone trivia: I remember when Brock Purdy was a Freshman, he was not allowed to answer press questions. Am I remembering that correctly? We had to wait until he was a Sophomore before we could hear him speak, answer questions, etc.

Why is it that Hunter is allowed in on the pressers then? Not complaining at all, just wondering if there was a recent change. I know I am probably behind in noticing things like this.

I can recall this as well, and was wondering the exact same thing. Have the rules changed for true Freshman’s and pressers?

I’ll say this once more, Tyrese Hunter has the ability to be the BEST Cyclone player in program history. He’s NBA ready right now I believe.

I love the kid but I’m not sure he’s he most nba ready freshman pg named Tyrese we’ve had. He doesn’t have a 7 foot wing span so he’ll be around at least 3 years.

Monte's career Assists to Turnover ratio is one of the NCAA records often included in stories about records people believe will never be broken.

Are you talking body-wise, because I'm guessing you have to be a little more consistent in the shooting category to make the NBA.

coach on the floor security blanket for the full four years. He’d be putting up similar ridiculous #s in that area in the NBA if his MVP center wasn’t the best passer on the planet.

He's a really good player that will become an all time great here.

I really appreciate his post game interviews with Heft. He handles himself very well and respects his teammates, the staff, opponents, and media.
This is the kind of kid every program would love to have. We are lucky he's here.

Tyrese is good, and will only get better, but he isn’t NBA ready at all right now, and that’s okay.

Put to you this way, if I was Tyrese and I had friends and scouts whispering in my ear of a potential lottery pick, I’d listen. Say he plays consistently deep into March, I think NBA executives will certainly take heed. Just my opinion.

We all love where Tyrese is at…but c’mon. We’ve had multiple All-American/Conference Player of the Year caliber players.

If he even comes close to Monte that would be one hell of a career at ISU. Lets pump the brakes a bit.

Yeah love the kid and I’ll think he’ll be here for at least 3 years. He’s only 6’0, doesn’t have his shot figured out yet and can have a loose dribble.

I think he’s better than Monte right now as a Freshman tbh.

He’s better at driving to the rim and finishing at the rim. He’s a more physical defender/rebounder, but both are pretty good at getting steals without fouling as freshmen. His usage rate is way higher but he is less efficient in a lot of ways.

Monte was better ball handler (he was a better ball handler as a freshman than all of college basketball) and a better shooter as a freshman.

Honestly it's closer than I thought. I started out thinking Monte's #s were going to be better, especially as %/per40/per100 possessions, but after looking at it closely it's a bit of a coin toss and a "what does a team need".
