Tyrese Hunter Appreciation Thread

He's a Freshman starting at the PG position playing in the best conference against two really good defensive teams. He'll take his lumps, but this experience will only make him better.

If not, though, just know that we all hate you.
Exactly. Two of the best defensive teams in the country. As a freshman. That's being thrown into the deep end. Nobody had a great stat line last night. But we won the game.

I think Tyrese is used to being able to finish over people, and that's a bit harder to do in Big 12 play. He's going to have to adjust and I trust he will.

I trust he will to. He was able to work through some early struggles in the Baylor game and had a solid 2 half. If he would have hit a couple of early floaters vs TT the narrative of his game would have been different. Tyrese is a worker and will identify and act on the issues and as he gets comfortable with B12 play will improve. I fully expect good games from him the next time he plays Baylor an Tech.

Tyrese Hunter is a great Frosh. Love having him on the team. Tyrese Hunter is not close to Monte Morris yet. Monte pushed Deandre Kane off the ball as a Frosh.

You unintentionally touched on a main point actually. Monte competing against Kane and learning from an experienced player like Kane really helped Monte. Tyrese is really the only real point guard on this team and I question if he has that role model to learn from and more importantly push him to the limit in practice like Kane did Monte.

This kid is growing up FAST right in front of us!!

In his first CyHawk game, Tyrese goes for 11 points, 8 rebounds (He was the smallest player on the floor), 6 assists (2/1 A/TO ratio). While he didn't have the best shooting night. He does all the little things that lead to winning basketball!

He has also been a LOCKDOWN defender on opponents point guards. What a weapon. Are we sure this kid is 18? He is a 3 point shot away from being unstoppable! So excited for his future!

I don't want to put expectations on him that aren't achievable.. But he reminds me so much of 2019-20 Davion Mitchell already
Yes. I feel like he's Will Blaylock with more speed.

There were about 8 passes he made today that were so good it made you shake your head in disbelief. It was honestly one of the most well played games I've seen at Hilton at the point guard position. The poise of a senior year Monte Morris.

Way more talented ball handler than Blaylock. Way more intense defender as well.

"way more talented ball handler" is a stretch. Blalock had a tight handle but often got caught trying to do too much. Tyrese is more solid. And agreed, a better defender. Hunter is legitimately one of the best defenders in the Big 12 right now, which is crazy to say for a freshman.
