It's seems like it wants to compete against that Truth Social - Trump platform

I'm seeing a lot more stuff in trends that I don't want to see.

Plus if I'm an advertiser I have no idea how I could be on the platform. It has so much **** on there. I want my ad right next to some ****** up Nazi ****? That's nothing new, but I've always wondered how companies get their arms around that
Fair statements.

He wants ad revenue, but doesn't need it. His add revenue could go to zero and he could still fund the operations. Doesn't make sense, but he knows that's on the table for him.

i get a lot of news on Twitter - just follow who u find reputable. Why on earth would u look at all the other stuff? Who cares? I don't read the National Enquirer. Do I think the NE should go away? No. Also, this is from a person who has never been on FB.

Interested to hear others opinions (not political or cave bound) about Musk's actions since taking control. He obviously realized there was some serious dead weight just milking a paycheck, but dang. If I had that much money into something that could vanish quite quickly ... well ... I'd take a different approach.

He "realized" nothing. He's always been a fraud and is a tool to destroy a platform many marginalized and oppressed groups use globally to share what is happening to them.

One of my kids was recruited by Spacex but when he heard even the interns had to work 80 hours a week he decided to take his skills elsewhere. Life is too short for that crap.
It’s a place you go to if you’re really invested in the mission or to get it on the resume after a year or two.

I think he's finding out that the "dead weight" he found in the first month wasn't dead weight at all. It was just his poor understanding of how social media companies work.

Running a website doesn't take many people. Moderating a site with millions of users and doing it in a way where you won't get sued into oblivion takes a lot of people. Big part of the reason the previous owners wanted out, hard to make money with it.

Good for your son. It was the correct choice for him.

But there are a lot of great things that SpaceX has and will accomplish.

Twitter did not need that many engineers. They know it and Musk knew it. Same thing for Facebook. You get that many engineers and they are just looking for things to do like block freedom of speech and fact checking. No real value added with that many engineers.

edit: Most of them on visa's or from foreign countries not US citizens. Not that I have anything against them just saying it isn't all US citizens getting laid off.

A lot you sound like the same people and comments about Tesla, SpaceX, etc. Why bet against an entity that the sole shareholder could write off his investment and still fund the company?
Both of those are government-backed. Life's easy under subsidy and government contracting. Twitter does not fall into those categories.

Also, Elon still financed about 40% of his Twitter purchase IIRC.

I always laugh at the idea that the previous owners didn't want to make money. If your take starts with you assuming a business owner doesn't care about making money than you should probably just sit it out.

And no equivalent reason to do that for Twitter. It doesn't have nearly the attachment space travel or early EVs have

Still have never signed up for Twitter but getting a kick out of the drama that has gone down so far. It's obvious that some are just too obsessed over social media that this has created anxiety and stress for them. Personally could care less if Musk burns it to the ground, maybe will force some of us to look differently at how we use social media.

Won't post the link here at the risk of someone taking it the wrong way but there is a pretty funny video on YouTube I came across that was a satirical take in a fired Twitter employee interviewing for a new job.

There have been times when Twitter was amazing. One person live tweeted the capture of the Boston Bomber. A terrorist event was live tweeted.

But now it's a hot mess.
