Transfers and de-commits

Let's review: Last year our BB team tanked and we wanted Prohm fired. Then, the TX/OU debacle occurred. Then, we slipped a little in football. Then, we thought we'd be losing CMC. I'm spent, so I'm not worrying about a few guys who think they aren't getting the love they deserve. On this one, if they don't want to be here, that's ok. I have to turn the page and think only happy thoughts from now on.

I would also like to point out that Isheem Young has a kid (looks like less than a year old), I know it may be common just to focus on the football side of things, especially on here but im sure, given Isheem has a girlfriend and less than year old son, there were/are other things at play here.

Also looks like gf and baby boy do not live in Iowa.

Just an FYI

Can someone talk me off the ledge here...

This couldn't be because players and recruits know something about Campbell moving on, could it? Lots of silence from him.

The only concerning transfer is Young. The others have been over recruited or phased out in practice for someone else. Also some potential Covid year returners and them wanting to play sooner. Young is the biggest concern, and is likely family related.

This.
Every single team loses people to the transfer portal if they weren't getting enough playing time. The fact that this guy is leaving as a major contributor is troubling but doesn't make it a trend. Especially if his play put him on his dream schools radar or if he can make an extra 5-10K and needs the money.

That’s not true at all. We lost some guys that would contribute a lot in the portal right now.

I would think that a public statement might reassure recruits and current players and cause them not to transfer or decommit, no?
Wondering what you'd like him to say that he already hasn't?
"I'm not going to any other hypothetical job if these said hypothetical jobs open up."
There are no CURRENTLY open jobs or spots that he would take so idk what yall are looking for.

He talks to recruits privately, why would he need to "talk" to them publicly? If they don't believe what he says in their private conversations, they're not going to believe a public statement either.

Fans want a public statement to reassure their own insecurities. That's it.

Public statements also mean nothing. If I had a nickel for every time a coach said he wasn't going anywhere, only to take another job a week later.....

Good point. I told you I was on the ledge.

It just seems strange to me that players and recruits are running away from a great culture and coach. Maybe it's just the new normal. Just has me feeling uneasy about the whole thing.

That you think* We literally just saw it in basketball guys left who we had penciled in a big time contributors. Sometimes they see the writing on the wall before us.

Also quite notable that Freyler and C. McDonald played a LOT down the stretch of the season. Would be interested to see the snap counts with them vs King and Young. If Jordyn Morgan is the real deal (which by these transfers I assume he is) we will be just fine.

Freyler, C. McDonald and Morgan are a quality group.

Also locked down at CB with Johnson back, Purchase looking good and young guys like Tampa and Kyle waiting.

Wouldnt be crazy to guess Will McDonald comes back....

Just saying.

We lose transfers every year and we have players decommit every year. I think the transfer thing is just the "new normal". I think the decommits come from recruiting higher caliber players than in the past. The big boys come trying to scoop up their back-up options as we get close to signing day.

I think Townsend wants to play closer to home and will probably stay in Florida. Sounds like one of his teammates is going to UCF. UCF is an option not since they'll be in a P5 conference soon.

Avery Henry jumped on an Ohio State offer.

Losing Noble Thomas to Oregon State sucks, but we just got another CB commit. Time will tell if we lost out on that trade.

I think King was getting passed on the depth chart next year. There's a lot of good young safeties on the roster. Young was also losing snaps to Freyler at the end of last year but it sounds like he's transferring for possible personal reasons. With Horne we lose some depth, I don't know that he was a starter though. Scates leaving sucks, but he just never panned out like we had hoped. I too wish he would come back for one more year though.

You think he is giving definitive statements in private but does not feel comfortable doing so in public? That is blood in the water for opposing recruiters.
