Traffic Flow

Just saw this in the gameday information. Does anyone have any info on this, or is there a map showing where we will be directed to drive?

In an effort to respond to feedback about post-game traffic shared in last year’s season-ending fan survey, Iowa State worked with local law enforcement to review and develop a plan to address those issues ahead of the 2025 season.

This egress traffic plan was developed and implemented in partnership with the Iowa State University Police, Iowa State Patrol, City of Ames and Iowa State Athletics.

This plan was designed to give each parking zone a defined traffic route exclusive to their area to hopefully improve the overall traffic flow leaving the vicinity of the stadium, while providing a defined route to move away from the stadium efficiently and reduce crossover at key intersections which previously slowed overall traffic flow.

Please note that this plan will be in effect after each 2025 home football game and will be utilized until traffic levels return to normal traffic flows and then traffic restrictions will be lifted.

This may impact preferred individual routes exiting the stadium, but the overall plan is developed to provide an efficient method to get the bulk of the traffic offsite in an efficient manner – with a targeted goal of free-flowing traffic within 90 minutes of the conclusion of the game.

Law enforcement will have aerial surveillance of the traffic egress for the first two games and we will continue to evaluate its effectiveness as we move through the season.

We thank you for your patience as we implement this new plan at the start of this season and welcome your feedback via email or click here.

Whatever attempt it is, I already have absolutely zero faith in and am sure it will be even more of a giant cluster **** than it has been in the past. You really would think they'd publish this **** so it's not a complete surprise.

I'm guessing there is only so much they can do. There is only like 3 ways out of Ames and 90% of fans are going the same direction. You're putting 61,500 people in a town with a population of 70,000.

There's a lot more they can do than they had been doing though. For example, there's no reason the grass lots should be headed anywhere but towards duff..

As it relates to the paved loves north of the Stadium, I would assume lots 5 (A,B,C,D) and the southern most entries/exits in lots 4 will now be required to exit southbound. Everything else exits northbound.

In previous years, you'd have traffic going both ways on the roadway between the lots. A giant cluster.

As someone that parks in the grass lots I have come to accept this but I still hate it as I want to head towards university and get on 30 west from the University on ramp not the Duff one. Sucks to have to sit on 16th eastbound in traffic that crawls just to get on 30 in order to go west. It's 2 miles longer to basically get to the on ramp I would prefer to go west on University. I get it and I accept it but doesn't mean I have to like it.

Plus the parking attendants that run the grass lots have some of the most backward logic when filling the lots then directing traffic out of there some weeks that make it even more of a s*-show. You are only supposed to be able to enter those lots with a right turn but they still let people turn into them with a left turn which holds up things. Make those people move on and turn around down the road somewhere and come in the right way like the rest of us waiting to get in had to. If you keep making exceptions to the traffic flows people will never learn and they will keep trying to shortcut their way around it.

Half serious question: Does anyone hop on a CyRide route to their vehicle parked on the north side of town away from traffic? I've joked about trying that before.
