I'm going to be honest, I did not expect to find Limp Bizkit in this thread.
Yeah, it came out at a time when I had my trunk full of speakers and would just cruise blaring Korn, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, etc. Faith obviously isn't an original song by LB but so damn catchy.

And you saw boobs on the Woodstock version.

Since there's some Elvis Costello love, I always thought he had impact on this song:

Like many people said it's hard to really just pick "5" songs. Some that pop out to me right now:

Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones. Someone above me beat me to the punch. The intro makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time I hear it.

Method of Modern Love 12" mix (Arthur Baker Mix)- Hall and Oates Baker's influence on the bass line and percussion can be heard throughout.

Confusion 12" (Baker Rough mix) - New Order. There are several versions of this song, with one "rough mix" being choppier. The better one has a deeper synth bass groove.

Lite Weight - Anderson Paak. Love this song.

Dance Yself Clean - LCD Soundsystem. Hard to beat the drop on this song. Definitely one to be heard on a great sound system.

Back to Life 12" extended version - Soul II Soul. Probably one of the best produced songs of all time. The beat, groove, precussive elements, and the hook are incredible.

Two Hearts Beat As One (Kevorkian Mix) - U2. Love war and love this song. The extended version has a piano riff of Clayton's bass line toward the end. Love the way it sounds.

I never looked but someone has to have Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight". That is great, especially the live video.

This is nearly an impossible task, but here goes.

Cemetery Gates - Pantera
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
Black Water - The Doobie Brothers

The only one in my top 5 for sure is Would by Alice in Chains. More Human than Human by White Zombie might be in there too. 90's metal is definitely my favorite genre.

Like a lot of other people, mine changes with my mood, but these are probably the ones that would stay in my top 10 no matter my mood

Mr Brightside - The Killers
Take 5 - Dave Brubeck Quartet
Everlong - Foo Fighters
Back to the Beginning Again - Switchfoot

And then this version of The Police's Everything Little Thing

I can't remember a lot of things anymore so my list is probably not my true Top 5, but what I could think of as my Top 5 for each major transition in my life.

Everclear - Santa Monica or Father of Mine
Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Blur - Song 2
Korn - Blind, Shoots and Ladders, Freak On A Leash, Got The Life (pretty much everything)
DC Talk - Jesus Freak
Limp Bizkit - Faith
Motionless In White - Loud (**** It)
Badflower - Ghost, The Jester, Family (pretty much everything)
I Prevail - Deep End (pretty much everything)
Falling In Reverse - Watch The World Burn (pretty much everything)
Godsmack - pretty much everything
Shinedown - pretty much everything
You have to have an Alice in Chains song with a list like that.

It’s interesting to me that so many of you feel the need to rationalize or caveat your posts.

Everyone knows the OP is an impossible ask (including the OP, who said as such). No need to “protect” yourself. Let ‘er rip. **** it.

Great tunes are great tunes. Doesn’t matter if anyone else thinks so.
