Tom Manning vs Brian Ferentz

How many times has Brian been nominated for a Broyle Award? Because Manning has twice.
Is that in part due to optics?
Brain is just doing what Iowa had always done under his dad.

Manning is at Iowa St in a time of unprecedented success. Thanks Jon!

Manning in 2020 with Iowa State
Brian Ferentz never
Phil Parker in 2020 with Iowa

I wonder if Brian’s temper holds him back

I thought on this for awhile.

Here is what I came up with:

Cage Match? Manning over Ferentz
Pistol Duel? Manning over Ferentz
Slap Duel? Manning over Ferentz
Iron Chef? Manning over Ferentz
Pictionary? Manning over Ferentz
Home Christmas Light Decoration Display? Manning over Ferentz
Pie Bake-off? Ferentz over Manning (struggled on this one, it would be close)
Trivial Pursuit? Manning over Ferentz
Tecmo Super Bowl 1991? Manning over Ferentz
Fuzzy Bunny? Ferentz over Manning..not even close
Garbage can kicking contest for distance?
Garbage can kicking contest for height?
Garbage can kicking contest for accuracy?
And, perhaps most importantly, garbage can kicking contest for aesthetics and grace?

The Parker one shocks me. He is one of the best in the country.

Brian Ferentz is an OC in a P5 conference because of his father.

Manning earned his OC position.

But we can also accept the fact: Manning coached offense has been the reason for our lackluster offensive starts in multiple games which has led to losses.

We could not sustain a 2 min drive to run out the clock against UNI, the defense had to get back on the field and defend to the last few seconds of the game.

What we know about Iowa under Ferentz:

They rarely make mistakes or miss tackles
They rarely turn the ball over
They rarely have penalties and their players show self control on the field
They are patient
They are physical
They win close ball games as they let their opponent defeat itself

Thus..this is why they probably will beat us this weekend. Two years ago special team mistakes cost us the game. We will have some aspect of the game on Saturday where the mental mistakes will result in a ISU loss.

oh and **** Iowa!

Manning is also responsible for the best couple offenses in the history of Iowa State Football. He’s not perfect, but he’s a pretty good OC. Need a terrific game plan out of him to combat Iowa’s solid defense.

Reactions: Lineup
Two of Iowa State's three best offensive years in school history in both points per game and yards per game have come in the last two years (2019, 2020). Just thought I'd pop in and mention that.
I haven't looked, but didn't certain games skew that some, like the ULM game where we put up 70 pts? He has 3 or 4 games a year where the offense is really struggle, that are stinkers

I've never loved ISU coordinators. I didn't like Mensa-Tom, I didn't like Messingham, wanted to like Mangino, but no. I was bearish on Manning, but he's not bad. I think the team is better with him than the year we didn't have an OC.
