Tim Floyd back in the Dance

I'd take getting to the Sweet 16 right now.

Again, the APR thing's a different story, but if you're going to be harsh on a guy because he can ONLY get the the Sweet 16, I'll take it.

Just getting to the tournament wasn't good enough for Iowa.
So they had to go out and hire the "second coming"........Steve Alford.
They should have been more careful as to what they wished for.
Davis was really ran out of town.

Not being harsh at all...just pointing out that he has never coached any team past the Sweet 16.

A lot of Cyclone fans consider Floyd some sort of "Coaching God" when the reality is that the guy before him and the guy after him both were able to coach teams further in the tournament than he has ever been able to do (JO coached Michigan to the Championship and LE coached us to the Elite Eight).

My personal opinion is that while TF is clearly a very solid CBB coach, both the fans (certainly of ISU) and the press have elevated his coaching persona beyond where it actually should be based upon the results he has achieved.

Would I trade TF for GM...in a heartbeat.

I think JO was excellent and did great things for ISU basketball, but taking Michigan to the final and where other coaches have taken ISU is not grading on the same curve. IMO

I don't think that Tim's rep is all smoke an mirrors as has been inferred. If he stays at USC and can avoid getting into APR trouble, his straightup coaching will be about where most of Cyclone nation thinks it is. - A very good coach.

That being said. I don't know which of the two I would want still coaching. Think the world of both of them. But it doesn't matter. We have GM and I'm still hoping that he can catch some breaks and earn his chance to be in the conversation.

Orr took ISU to the Sweet 16. Floyd did as well. LE got us to the Elite 8. You may know this but every year at the Final Four they have a special luncheon for coaches that have coached in the Final Four...Johnny Orr can go to that luncheon and TF and LE cannot.

No one is saying TF is all smoke and mirrors...he is certainly a solid coach. But many, and certainly many ISU fans, have him graded out higher than he probably should be...in my opinion.

Of our last five coaches...JO, TF, LE, WM, and GM...if I could hire them in their prime I would target JO first, TF second, LE third, WM fourth, and GM fifth.
