Thoughts on Coach, Be Respectful

I can't remember our last win over a ranked team. Actually, I don't believe Mac has ever had one at ISU. I have been a Mac supporter since day one but over the course of this season I'm leaning on the side that mac needs to go.

Nope, he hasn't. 0-14. Also, I think he only had 1 win over a ranked team while at UNI, and he had 3 NCAA tourney teams! I might be wrong on that but I think it's right.

I have been behind GMac since day one here, but I just don't see ANY results, and after this year's debacle, how can anyone look at next year and say we have a legit shot at a NCAA tourney bid?

I'm sorry. I wanted GMac to succeed when he came here, and I actually thought it was a good hire at the time.

Since then, he has shown us nothing. He can recruit some good players, but then they either seem to leave, or don't amount to much.

It just looks to me like the team has no idea what they are supposed to be doing out there offensively. I really can't believe that it is part of the offensive plan to have CB and Gilstrap taking 3's when they are the taller team inside. And yet nothing changes.

Poor free throw shooting, poor rebounding. no perimeter defense, poor inside shooting. All those things can be corrected, but they are not. It was that way at the start of the year, and it is that way every game.

I don't see CB as a draft pick the way he has played this year....but I don't expect him to come back either even if he is not drafted....there is always Europe. MG will probably be gone next year. Lucca is gone. The recruits coming in are not all that great. And unfortunately, I think there will probably be a couple more leaving......my guess would be Dendy and Colvin.

I just don't see any future with GMac. Not at ISU. He has had his chance and has produced absolutely nothing......not even hope.

I have the utmost respect for Greg McDermott. I hope that this team can find a way to pull together through the adversity and get to the postseason. I will admit that the results on the court need to get better, and the stability of the team must improve. I'm going to wait until the end of the season to judge how this one turned out.

I really dont know what to think right now. Part of me thinks that Mac may have had enough and just walk away at the end of the year, take some time off and find another job in 2 years.

I think the talent on this team is overrated. We get a couple guys that throw down a dunk or 2 and everyone thinks we have the most athletic team in the country. We have a team full of poor free throw shooters, and guys who are weak. I cannot believe how many times I hear John & Eric say "entry pass tipped away" or "into the lane, loses control" or "free throw missed, tipped out to..".

I think we are victims of expectations being to high. I think recruiting is getting better, and support giving GMac a couple more years.

Assemble a staff of Mike Davis, and get WM out of his crap business. Have WM recruit/assistant, and I think we have something to be excited about. I'm struggling to find possible coaching options. Any other ideas? I'm done with GMAC. Hilton is as dead as Brittney Murphy.

This is definitely the season where Mac will lose most of his supporters. Fourth year, high expectations with nothing to show for it (yeah, I know the season is far from over, just wait), missing out on HB, no year-to-year improvement, etc. Literally nothing has gone right under Mac.

From other threads, it sounds like we can't afford to fire him. If he's such a nice guy, let's hope he steps down for the good of the program.

The problem is, how many coaches can we afford to pay to stay in Ames? Is Wayne still on Salary? Could we require him to come back and recruit for Mike Davis? What could Mac do?
Mac may be a great talent and may have great success still in his career, but it has not and does not appear that it ever will happen here, past performance indicates future success - if we don't do anything, we can expect Carver type Crowds...its unfortunate, hes a good guy, but a great coach has his team in the top 5 with one of the most talented players that ever wore an Iowa State, Craig Brackens is also a fine player, and we stink...hmmm

I too thought it was a good hire at the time....but have been nothing but frustrated since that time.

I believe Mac was a "Cael Sandeson" hire get him before the Hawks did. ISU athletics are not here to just beat the Hawks, they should be here to win championships. I believe the people who pull the strings by and large have an insane satisfaction of : just beat the Hawkeyes at any sport and the rest of the season doesn't matter.
The powers that be ( and many fans) have to quit looking over their shoulders at Iowa. Paul Rhoads is a good fit, but, I don't want another Dmac or Gmac, I want ISU to win. If Pollard doesn't get an obvious winner with one of these two programs in the next 2 years or get a couple multimillion dollar donations, HE SHOULD LEAVE. He fails, he leaves.

Too soon
Too lame
Too sad

Really, he had trouble winning at Indiana.

I recall he coached Indiana to the National Championship game.

My utopian candidate would be Jay Wright from Villanova...probably never happen but hey I can dream...can't I?

You really think that? Mac was a hot name when he was hired. He is a good coach, it just seems him and ISU are not a good match thus far.
