I’d actually take another shot at McDermott. His Creighton teams are fun to watch. Sometimes coaches learn things.

I wouldnt take another shot at mcdermott. But i do wonder how he wouldve been as someone given a job as a maintainer (as prohm was) versus someone taking over when the program is bad to begin with.

I don’t think you can actually go back to him, but he’s obviously proven before and after his time at ISU that he’s a good coach.

Was the program in bad shape when McD took over? They barely had a winning season but were only two seasons removed from an NCAA tourney win.

I think the call was for more disciplined play due to his success at UNI.

This season is going to end up worse than any season McD had. I think 16 wins was his worst and there’s no way we get there this year. This program is a disaster right now.

14-18 in 2007-8.
I just looked it up because I couldn't remember.

But still, we always knew we'd hit double digits, and even then, we knew it wasn't good.
Signed, defender almost to the end.

McDermott I'll never understand why it didn't work.

Anything I ever saw out of him was not utilizing some very good players' strengths and letting them just play ball. It was a perfect square peg/round hole type of situation.

Hoiberg was a fresh breath of air because he absolutely did that albeit with the trade off that defense wasn't a priority.

CSP is somewhere in between where players are allowed freedom but it looks like without boundaries or knowing what they're supposed to be doing.

The type of athleticism I see even on other decent teams compared to what ISU has is a little alarming.

Yeah but it's worked at uni and now Creighton without his kid and in the big East

Yeah, it was.

Between morgan's last year and mcdermott's first, we lost a bunch of players to the draft, transferring, and graduation:

Brackins was both extremely talented and pretty overrated imo. It’s like you would try to get him the ball in the high post and next thing you know he’s taking an 18 foot jumper.

I totally understand why McDermott isn’t a good option. His team this year is playing four guards and a 6’7 210 soph at center. Fun to watch though.

Curious...do those players leave if Morgan doesn't get fired? I remember there was some stuff with recruiting or whatever but can't remember if Stinson and Blaylock got out because of that or because Wayne was gone. Same for Taggard.

Is he doing something different at Creighton? I honestly haven't watched. I see they're ranked though.

Yeah, its been a long time but pretty sure Stinson\Blalock wouldve stayed for their senior years if Morgan had still been there.
