Whenever the time comes, I hope JP now has a close basketball confidant. Someone that can make him look at more than just “fit” at Sunday dinner.

he doesnt. the list i posted is who i want.

here's who JP wanted and interviewed in 2015

Bryce Drew 40-59 at Vandy... ran them into the ground.
Brad Underwood 55-56 at OSU and Illinois.
LeVelle Moton 186-123 in the MEAC. theres a reason hes still at NCC
T.J. Otzelberger, - we know his story. good at sdsu. tbd at unlv

Jamie knows who to interview for fb coaches, i give him that but he sucks at finding bball coaches. some of the better names floated for isu over the years have all came from the big $ donors who had connections to them

Whether it's coaching, good recruiting, or lucky recruiting the defining feature of Prohm at ISU and Murray is elite point guard play. Beyond that who knows. He has most likely recruited and coached three unknown recruits into the NBA and guided a fourth he inherited. Pretty much every game he has head coached with a notable exception like last night.

We just saw how bad it can be without that one thing he has consistently had and done well. Having that elite point guard out there probably masks a lot of things.

I think he’s been bailed out his entire career by good PG play. The PG coached and ran the teams while Steve watched, and he really doesn’t know what to do or how to put together an effective offense as a coach.

The problem is ISU's "big money" donors aren't really big money donors. They think they are big money donors because they donate a lot for what they have, but when compared to other schools their donations aren't impressive at all.

Yeah, he has no clue. Over the last year or two, if the game is close in the last few minutes, I assume we're not getting good shots off and he can't fix it. So far, I've been right way more often than I should be.

He needs to have much, much more talent than other teams to pile up wins, and occasionally strikes gold with a win that's over his head. He'll get plenty of chances with the Big 12 schedule, probably pull one off somehow, and people will point to that as the example that he knows what he's doing and he's a keeper.

Meanwhile, we'll keep putting up games like last night, which show every continuing Prohm trend, but those will somehow be the exception, cuz Big 12 Tournament.

I find it amusing people still pine for Fred, he's made it widely known he has no desire to be in Ames. It's time to move on from thoughts of him. He went to coach BASKETBALL at Nebraska of all places, that should tell you all you need to know about him wanting to be in Ames.
Can someone refresh my memory why Fred wouldn’t come back to ISU? Is it b/c of Pollard?

no disagreement there. They still write the checks to get stuff done though, regardless of how big or small they are compared to other schools they're important to the success of isu athletics.

I understand but my point was their checks are impressive enough to carry the weight that they think they should.

Bailed out is an interesting way to put it. I give him credit for being good at consistently fielding good pgs. That is probably the top positive attribute to Prohm, which goes a long ways given the importance of the position.

3P shooting stinks this year, but in general the offense under Prohm has been sufficient. The biggest issues are on defense and in rebounding. Imo it’s rooted in being bad at figuring out matchups and lineups, as well not being good at the locker room management. His players seem to like him more than respect him

yeah they aint T Boone pickens with their money but if jamie wants to build his dream hotel/applebees or whatever in the parking lot of hilton then he needs to keep those big money (relative to isu) donors happy

ISU won the B12 tournament championship. He must be doing some good.
Right before blowing a realistic shot at winning the regular season title after winning big at KState. He proceeded to finish the season 1-5 including a 15 point loss at the 10th place team in the conference. On top of that, he lost complete control of his team during that span. There were fights at practice and mid game. This is what happens when you don’t COACH.

Our veteran big guys are regressing when they need to be counted on.

Young/Jacobson in 38 min:
6 points, 3-7 fg, 0-0 fts, 4 rebounds, 0 stl, 0 blocks

Conditt's 21 minutes off the bench in comparison:
12 points, 4-8 fg, 4-7 fts, 6 rebounds, 2 stl, 1 block

Yeah, ISU fans give the B12 tourney far more credit than it deserves. Our fans love to go get drunk in the P&L for a few days, so if the team can give them that every couple years they are happy. Regular season finish and NCAA performance is much more important in the big picture, and Prohm hasn't gotten it done there.

Pollard appears to always want the shiny, new toy. Every coach we get, other than Rhoads, seems like they are an up and comer from somewhere. I understand it saves us money at first, but Pollard needs to remember wins are what fan support is paying for. You bring in a staff that can win, people pay more. Don't get me wrong, it's nice some things are cheap for us fans who can't afford expensive season tickets, but people will pay for a good product.

I'm certainly not one of these 'big donors' but I do know a few. One sat by Pollard last night. Pollard knows he's in a pinch, but he isn't going to show any of his cards.
