Plus, we're talking about eight losses here. Eight. Of the Cubs' 32 total, that's all that have been lost by the bullpen.
Yeah, and if they win those games, they're over .500 by a fair bit. 31-24.

I agree that in the long run, this year's bullpen is irrelevant. But there are pieces out there that are better, and don't require any kind of major investment. Marmol is one of the top 5 paid relief pitchers in baseball, just behind guys like Rivera. Trading off nearly $10 million and picking up a guy for a $1-2 million dollar deal that performs better is a pretty good deal and helps keep fans interested by making the team more competitive now, and it doesn't interfere with the club's long-term vision.
If. There isn't a bullpen in the country that hasn't lost a game yet, so that's a pretty big if (every bullpen except Oakland's has lost at least 4 games). As another poster pointed out, it's part of the game. 8 losses by relievers is actually better than most teams.
The bullpen blew another game last night, this time it was James Russell giving up 2 runs in less than an inning of work. Travis Wood has had 15 quality starts out of his 16 total starts, but comes away with another no decision to go with his 5-6 record.

Russell, IMO, is entitled to having an off night every now and then. He pitches great about 90% of the time. Some of the other guys never seem to pitch well out of the pen.
Bullpen laboring yet again...
