i have a feeling this 5 year talk is the last ditch effort to save face and make it look like OU wasn't pimp slapped.
I just read that Beebe is pulling down almost $1MM/year with a contract though like 2015!!! Maybe we can pull a McD with him and get that new fangled USA/MTN West to pay us to hire him. That would be great.

The most important part of the 5 year timeline is that will mean the big12 will have renegotiated first tier TV rights (likely through 2030) which will pretty much lock in everyone until at least 2025 due to legal problems of breaking the first tier TV contract.

Now that it looks like the Big 12 is going to last I wonder about the future.
I think both the Big East and the Big 12 will need to expand to atleast 10 teams, probably 12. So in 5 years, or however long it lasts until the next round of expation happens, there are now 4 more team in the AQ conferences. The Mountain west may become BCS certified adding that many more schools. If we go to 4 16 team conferences how bad will that hurt ISU? In a way I almost wish this all would have fallen apart last year, cause the only way I see this being good for us is if the Big 12 never folds or the super conferences never happening.

How about TCU to the SEC? Is there a reason that wouldn't happen? Is TCU just not good enough? That would make sense since they are kind of out to dry right now.
You probably don't want to do that, that would put our first tier and our second tier TV deal expiring at the same time since the tier 2 deal was for 12 years. If you want to keep teams in the conference and add stability, you want these staggered.
Good point, but you also don't want to leave a bunch of money on the table. Like the ACC did with its football TV contract.
Yeah, that's true and we should definitely negotiate the best TV deal we can. But after what we went through (and assuming a longer contract benefits stability and long term membership) I would take a longer term over more money without a second thought.
I keep seeing all this talk of LHN still potentially showing high school games and I can't quite figure out why this is still an issue. I was almost positive the NCAA made a ruling that any school based network couldn't show high school games.
