The Older I Get...

The more excited I get for the Season Opener. I have been bouncing off the walls all day thinking about tailgating and watching the game next Saturday, I have no clue how I will get through next week.

Also, I miss the ticker at the bottom of the page.

I took vacation next week and am now realizing that I'll be spending half of my time wishing it was Saturday already. Going through my mental check list...

Coolers
Grill
Pounds of meat
Beer
Vodka
Bloody Mary mix (Saturday morning may be rough after Friday night)
Chairs
Tickets
13 hour road trip
etc etc etc..damnit hurry up Saturday

The older I get... The more tempered I become to ISU sports. Losses don't kill me anymore, but I revel in the wins for quite a while. I don't outwardly hate the Hawks like I used to, sometimes even root for them, but secretly delight when they have a devastating close loss (Michigan State) or get totally humiliated (Stanford). But mostly I just don't give a ****.

I learned long ago as an ISU fan that you talk trash BEFORE the game. There's nothing that can be said after the game that can humble me more.

But mostly, I go to bed earlier, wake up earlier, and get up to pee several times a night.

I'm having my bachelor party on Friday and Saturday in Des Moines. Having a game watch at Keg Stand for the game! Too many people to try and get up to Ames.

I think I got way more excited about football season when I was a dumb kid with no responsibilities, now I'm a dumb adult with lots of responsibilities.

I'm the opposite. Other things keep creeping higher on the list of importance.

Still excited, no doubt, but family, friends, work, etc all keep getting more important to me and ISU sports less.

When I was in high school or college I was probably too Excited about ISU sports, so I have a high baseline I'm comparing to.

This is exactly where I'm at. The last 3 years have been incredibly busy for me. So much so, I had to drop my season tickets last year. I used to schedule my entire fall around home games, now I'm lucky to watch an entire game live on tv. I'm hoping that within the next couple of years I can get tickets again and start taking my son (not quite 3 yet).

I've never been a big tailgater. I'd rather get into the stadium when the gates open and watch the teams go through warm ups. #footballnerd

When it is just us and the kids, we do this as well. After tailgating for four hours or so first.

Becoming a fan of the post-game tailgate as well. No point fighting the traffic. Finish off leftovers. Saved a pan of scotcheroos for the post-game tailgate once last year, totally hit the spot.

Can we get the ticker back at the bottom of the screen? I know you have the power to make this happen. Maybe should be submitted for vote?

I was about to, but noticed I was not one of your favorite posters. I will put it on the list of things to do after all my favorite posters are taken care of. ;)

But seriously, I do not have this power...or do I?

I've spent the last few days worrying about tailgate food. Got some vegetarians coming to our tailgate. From what I can tell, all they eat is chips and chocolate. Maybe chocolate dipped chips? But other than tailgate food, I'm excited. First time I have had season tickets since I was a student a very long time ago.

Just tell them it's tofu with meat flavoring so it's ok.

BTW, you bringing that sister with so I can see if my basketball tradition works with football. :).

I can just hear them now, best veggie burgers ever, what's the secret ingredient?

I think my sister is showing up, but as usual, she is noncommittal until the last minute, then expects things. Her husband is such a germaphobe though, I think he is afraid to eat outside, so who knows for sure? He was helpless to the influence of peanut butter fudge one game last year though, I know his weaknesses. Between food and kids, we may have to bring two vehicles.

We will be in G7 (usually get stuck near somebody blasting old rap music), but may be a little later due to youngest now having football games.

Not sure where we will be, kind of depends if our student wants us in the student lot, which his brother did to expand their area (and probably get more food). I like the snoozy atmosphere of Vet Med myself, but my brother probably won't want his veggie friends to have to walk that far.
