I sorta quit when my kids were born. I didn’t want them to think drinking was the only way to have fun. Plus, BIL had his 3 year old get him a beer once. Kid gave it to him and said, all you drink is bud light. BIL did and does drink a lot, that kid grew up and gets drunk non stop like his dad did.

Also, while I may have fun that night, I lost the next day due to hangovers. I’m too busy for hangovers, another benefit to rarely drinking. When I do, it’s 1-2 tops.
This hits home for me. Good post.

I have to really over do it to have a day wrecking hangover. Maybe had one in the past year (day after the UT football game).

I think that’s one of the reasons I still like booze.
My medical bills and cracked helmets can confirm. To add to this, anyone in the Des Moines area should hit up Banner's track. Short, but fun (twss).

To add to this thread, I've mostly cutout drinking, and stopped medicating (benedryl, melatonin, etc...) to sleep. Still sleep like **** now and then, but have a much clearer mind the next day, which by itself has been a brain boost.

I've also adopted the "**** em" mentality. It's easy to get caught up with the drama, the negativity, and all that ****, but I've shifted towards letting those toxic things that and people that are out of my control go.

Next time in Central Iowa, I’m dragging my bike down. Banner and the art center trails look nice

Last thing I'll say too - things like gratitude journals are really, really good for your mental well being. I don't do it, but I make my kids do it. I'm also just a generally grateful person. I'm surrounded by people I not only have fun with but I deeply admire.

I've never been much of a drinker (I've never had a hangover in my life) but if I get a few in me I start telling people how much I like them and what I like about them. My friends call it "Sentimental Bryce". Depending on your group of friends that may not fly, but I would highly recommend taking time to think about what you are grateful for and the attributes those people have that are in your circle that you really like. It can really help you appreciate those people that you may not always be on the same page with.

Cut out everyone in your life that is a Hok fan. Feel the weight being lifted off your shoulders.

I do the same but I have a band and typically they like the songs that are sometimes too personal for me to share. Gotta know how much to give away to this world.

That's kind of me as well. I didn't give our singer my lyrics... just the riff and my mood. Let him do his thing. You'd be surprised (maybe not) at how often he could say things better than I ever could and we got the same vibe. It was and still is therapeutic.

I'm learning. *Humble brag alert* Typically I am the one pushing others in my band. Partly because I am well rounded and do many things within the band, but also because I'm a perfectionist and work incredibly hard on my songs and like them to be complete. The band I am currently in, allows me to have my dream position as exclusively on guitar. Normally I have to write the lyrics and the melodies with my songs, but our singer now is great. She brings such a different perspective to the song that I want to give away more control to her after I give her the skeleton of what I normally would be presenting.

My first experience with it was rough for me. I had a jazz metal fusion song I was vibing on. My current project is more of the R&B hip hop genre. The song has morphed into something we all love together evenly. It's nothing like it was, and its many times better. I think in the past I was trying to compete with the world, now I want to grow into it, musically speaking.

edit:
Apologies for hijacking the thread though.

Working through the process of making music is fascinating and definitely a way to step away from the daily grind.

I have a friend that plays in a band and was *this* close to signing at one point, and one thing I'm looking forward to is talking about all of that with them.

It's always exciting when someone has a studio sniffing around.

No.. this is excellent. It's pretty cool.

I used to be a perfectionist regarding music, until I realized I'm a hack and to let others do their jobs. Kinda depends on the genre of music I guess. *humble brag* Playing guitar and writing music was my main job for most of the '90s. Until I went back and got my degree. (ChE)

Do you have any tunes online?

I'll PM you when I get the new stuff recorded well enough I'm ok with sharing it. It's still in it's infancy.

Lots of good ideas to reduce stress. read this this AM --Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life. Since you cannot do this very thing, why do you worry about the rest. Luke 12:25-26
