I'm just glad I'm getting near the end of my working career and have money saved up to move to a off grid farm or something.

Well the good news is if we're all ****** then we're kinda all not ****** too, see you guys at the bread line!
It could also be argued that it will provide a tool to make radiologists, cardiologists, scribe, psychologists, psychiatrists more accurate and faster and maybe replace them with something more accurate down the road. Wouldn't that be good for you if you are the patient???
I get it, this is hitting close to you for some reason. Yes its going to change things, but maybe some of the changes will be for the better too.
This is part of the concern is when people are slowly ******, like what we see happening with slow and steady layoffs there isn’t the rush to put guardrails in place, UBI, or anything protective. If everyone was screwed in rapid procession something would have to happen
100% some things will be better. Charting will be so much faster which could mean more time with patients. Radiologist reads could happen borderline instantly meaning patients move through the system faster.
The problem is these changes by and large won’t be assistive, they will be replacing people. That’s the major issue. I won’t deny that AI can and will be capable of doing amazing things but when you don’t have a job do you really care how much time you are saving at the hospital when you don’t have insurance to pay for the bills or for the roof over your head?
I'm a carpenter. All you white collar spoiled brats are ******. I'm good for now until we build infrastructure that our new AI over lords can take over. If you're nice to me maybe I'll throw you a few scraps. I can't start issuing bonds if you want to start buying.

Here is my issue with all the AI crap. I dont mind when people make something AI, when it is not done to try to fool people into it being real. Its fine when it is obviously AI, I dont mind when it is for a joke, or to create a concept or idea etc. Using AI to help write something, outline something, plan something etc is totally fine.
The issue is all the absolute garbage out there that is obviously trying to fool or scam people. I hate the AI robot voices on videos that are so aggravating to listen to or watch. It seems we have just given scammers a new tool to try to fool people, whether that being fake stories, fake videos, fake pictures etc.
Social media was bad a couple years ago, now its so much worse. Its noting but AI crap.
As AI progresses unfortunately more and more people are going to get scammed into buying things, into believing things, etc.
That doesnt even get into the issue with the amount of jobs AI and robotics are taking. Which can be blamed on a lot of things, some not for discussion outside the cave, but the fact still stands a lot of jobs are being taken by AI, and a lot more will as the technology improves.
I know schools are having a dilemma. On one hand they dont want students using it for obvious reasons. Then they utilize AI checkers that are wrong as much as AI is wrong, so they end up accusing people of using AI when they havent. Then you have the need for people in the new normal needing to be able to know how to use AI when they enter the workforce in some jobs, but then the schools dont want to teach it because they dont want students using it.
I think of it now like photoshop, 10 years ago, students in some fields needed to know how to use it, and schools taught how to use it etc. Now kids need to know how to use AI, and well schools refuse to teach it because they want kids to only use photoshop the "old" way. Its like every tech ever, some believe the old way is better, more pure, etc and some realize it is here to stay and they must adapt and utilize it or fall behind.
So we are in a transition phase, there are good and bad to it, but it is here to stay, so we better adapt or we are going to be left behind. That doesnt mean we have to like everything that is being done with it.

I don't disagree with the post above about AI "slop" (which I think was word of the year with Merriam Webster), but the kind of AI being used in the workforce is very different. Not saying that's what you were implying - just pointing out that casual encounters with AI a often a very different variety.
I use it for stuff that would be tedious to look up myself. Today I used it to find out a rough opening for a door with a specialized hinge. It was perfect. It's also really good at translating language.
Depends on the length of time. Robots' limitation up until now have been their need for "programming". AI, as it advances, will "program" them on the spot. As dexterity increases, they will have the capability to get everywhere we can, handle all the tools we can, see all the issues that we can and more quickly and accurately manipulate whatever situation is at hand faster than we can.
This will ,however, be the last bastion of human work. There MIGHT be some need for humans to mantain systems and make some forms of decisions we try to limit from AI, but it is going to take over all "work" eventually. It will run things for us and the only question is will we gain the capability to assure true alignment, before we develop ourselves out of existence.
IF we can accomplish that, then humans need to figure out an alternative economic system, where human labor / work is no longer the source of funds/exchange in which to invest or sustain. This will require at a micro level, governmental organizations being wise enough, nimble enough and under enough agreement that they can do something beneficial for all their constituants and then at a macro level, learning to cooperate instead of wage war for global dominance.
I'm not sure we make it through both these hoops long term. I don't have that high of confidence in humans in large numbers.
Good news, this could take some time and some on this board may have passed before any of this happens to completion. OR, it could happen by 2035. When is a question. If is not.
