or

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't we have one of the best offensive red zone success rates in the country this year?

I think we are also still one of the least penalized teams in the country. The OU defensive line was jumping all over the place before the snap yesterday.

We probably are but a bunch of meaningless scores from the ULM game dragging up the average didn't do us much good last night. Breece Hall didn't touch the ball enough and we got too cute in the redzone. I don't think that's really a controversial take.

And so what? It was a hostile environment. It's opponents job to get us out of sorts and our job to maintain discipline. Much like the Alamo bowl, we didn't. Again, your season stats don't make any difference if you're going to deviate away from them to the extreme we did last night.

The point of my post was to say that we have plenty to worry about ourselves before we start saying we'll win as long as we don't get jobbed by the refs.

The entire game I was just waiting for them to come back and play up to their potential. It was a fun game to watch. We pounded on their defense. I don't think we had any injuries except for Olson (he walked off on his own) while Oklahoma had many injury timeouts. I will take a moral victory and ignore the perfectionists. I am going to trust in the process.

Side note, I think Reggie Bush is a west coast turd with his arrogant opinions despite the facts. He is a waste of an analyst.

Wasn't awesome, but the fact that Oklahoma isn't better than us is a bright spot.

Some rambling thoughts [not drinking and not hungover]. Some of the young-uns on CF seem to forget how incredibly horrible football has been over the years. Since 1955 the year I was born we have won 9 games ONCE and 8 games only 6 times.

This year we are a play or two away from winning 3 more games already. Being that close and failing has not got this team down, and that is why I really really like this team. They keep competing until they are walking off the field. They also have won games this year that earlier teams might have lost. How many early in the game thought we would lose 49-0. Most Cyclone teams would have but not this one.

I'll admit to drinking the kool-aid before the season but I have a confession to make while we are 0-0 I drink the kool-aid every year. Even with the close loses this team has a chance to do something that has only been done once, a 9 win season.

Iowa State will never have the breakout year like Baylor and Minnesota are having this year. We don't have the luck they have had this year. We are going to have to do it slogging and fighting every step. Just make this year a little better than last, and next year a little better than this one. That is exactly what is happening if you step back and logically analyze instead of emotionally reacting to the kool-aid drank in July.

Correct, we can hang with everyone in this conference now. It seems strange to say that though.

I can appreciate that. I also appreciate how we were down 3 scores and were breaks away (several dropped pick-6s in the first half; a dead drive in the 4th quarter when we had all the momentum; a PI on the 2PT conversion) away from stealing that game last night.

Yes, 5 years ago I was "satisfied" with 6-6 seasons. But Campbell came in and changed the expectations. While it's neat to say that our 4 losses are by a combined 11 points, when does this stop being the bragging point? When do all these one possession losses become one possession wins?

That's why last night was not "awesome". Loved the effort in the second half and refusal to die. But it was still a loss and nothing about losing can be described as "awesome".

I know this isn't directed at me per say but I never claimed it was awesome. The fact we don't get get pushed around like a middle school team against the "Big Boys" of the league is a nice change and proves we are improving. Ya we should have had 1 maybe 2 gimmie pick sixes in the first half, and we can debate the shoulda, woulda, coulda PI on the 2 point conversion. But hey we didn't get the breaks, it was still a solid showing against the #9 team in the country on the road. In the past ISU would have gone in the fetal position down 21 in the 4th. And no, moral victories are for losers.

It wasn't. I just used your post which I mostly agree with as a springboard into why the thread title is such a joke. I'm cool with what you had to say in the first post of yours I quoted and in this one as well.

Man so many different emotions after that game. Gut wrenching the way it ended after getting so high from the last TD. So thankful for our staff and our players who never say quit and keep fighting. Frustrated with conference officials yet again. And just overwhelmingly exhausted from this season and the way things can't seem to bounce in our favor. You can get lost in your own mind of what ifs

Imagine being able to understand that, while your team took a devastating loss, you can still acknowledge that the game you watched was a great game. Couldn’t be us.

at a couple different points in the first half I thought I was going to have to spend my night pornhubbing. But nope, every time we faced the brink we made the play we needed and I watched every second of that game.

Or we could start catching interceptions....or improve the play calling, especially in the red zone...or not have double digit penalties.

I agree. I would much rather catch an interception or two a game, call the perfect game, and have no penalties with a staff who has a roster full on 2 stars. The only reason we all can...I mean some can nitpick is because the overall program is in excellent shape. I have loved being on here and supporting ISU , but some of you have no clue about coaching. But, we are in a great country ( at least for now) that allow us free speech and the ability to type anything. ME INCLUDED. lol.

Hall had 18 carries and 4 catches. Only person who touched it more was Purdy. Kids a true freshman, he's not ready to be touching the ball 30 to 40 times a game. It's ok to be critical but I disagree on this.

This school has its best offense in 43 years. An offensive line that was leaky and suspect is now quite respectable. Yet, somehow the Offensive Coordinator is no good according to many. A real puzzle.

I didn't think play calling was as bad yesterday. There were a couple of calls especially to the TE's that were brilliant. Soehner can really run for his size. I'd love to see a DB try to tackle him at full gallup.

He basically didnt play the first 3rd of the season. We dont want to run him 40x but I'm not worried about wearing him out either, especially coming off a bye. Six or 8 more touches would've been nice.

The bigger issue with the usage was how we'd feature him for a drive or two then he'd completely disappear for a while. He doesn't need 40 touches but I think he could.be a more consistent weapon.

Look at the context of my response and spare me your lecture on the state of ISU's program. If you'd rather just lay it all at the refs' feet and pretend "we" didnt have any shortcomings last night, that's your prerogative. My point was that we'll have to shore up more than officiating to win our upcoming games. I don't think that's being unfair to anybody.

I've got 30+ years on you when it comes to ISU football and am well aware of where we are compared to where we've been. I don't EVER expect these kids or coaches to be perfect but it doesn't make me some kind idiot to point out that dropped pick 6s and double digit penalties are bad.

moral victories are for loser players. Who cares if fans have moral victories.

I will say that while I get thd point that old Iowa state teams would have folded after first half, I realized that I never expected this team to. That’s pretty cool.

Oklahoma did plenty of bad things too. Perfection isn’t happening.
