Tattoos

Was supposed to have my first sitting (inner arm) in about an hour, but the artist got sick. :( I already had four sittings scheduled through January so hopefully it won't push it back - the shop is currently booking in July 2022. Also hoping the artist is just normal sick, not COVID, because my second sitting (outer arm) is next week.

That sucks. The place here in Waukee is currently at around a 6 month wait. I was lucky when I got my 5-bar tattoo in August to get a person new to the shop so the wait was only a week.

I’m loaded with tats. Full back, shoulders, couple on me legs. Just got a new one Tuesday. No Cyclone tats yet to be honest. It’s nice being friends with some of the top tattoo guys in Des Moines. Most of my are Marine corps related or kids related. Probably taking the next year off of tats, or until I get drunk and a great idea comes to me.

any tattoo shop recommendations in central Iowa?

Really depends on your style. Not sure if this is your first one, but if it is, I would look up local artists and find one that fits your style and focus less on the shop itself.

I have gotten 4 pieces done by Chris Mikesell at Sacred Diamond Tattoo near Hoover. They do a great job with traditional style work.

I’ve got another appointment with Chris next week. He’s done two for me so far, others have been out of state, but he’s my guy in Des Moines for sure. Would certainly recommend.

Sacred Diamond was recommended by someone else. Not my first but first in about 30 years and my daughter is thinking about getting her first.

They do a nice job. But they do tend to excel at traditional style. I’ll say it again: the best way to go about getting work done is to find an artist that matches your style. Most artists CAN do any style but most excel in one area.

I get it. But, I don't really have a 'style'. I have a scar on my neck that I'm hoping to cover/obscure and a tattoo I got when I was 18 I'd like covered. Maybe combine them somehow. Will have to be dark to cover up that monstrosity.

My latest is one I got last year at about this time. My son (23) was having a tough time dealing with the loss of a close friend (and really nice kid), so I threw out the idea that we should get matching tattoos of Courage the Cowardly Dog. We watched that when he was younger, and what always struck me about Courage is that he'd be scared as hell and still keep going. My son loved the idea, so we did it.

Apparently niece had a ton of temporary tattoos at her birthday party a couple of weeks ago and they had a bunch left over. So I arrived last night to find my toddler nephew with a bunch of rainbow and unicorn tattoos complete with a tramp stamp rainbow.

Actually that's awesome LOL.

I have my apt for Monday, may be the first to get the 5-bar logo tat. Going to keep it simple and at first it will just be the solid black stripes. Have a few ideas for dressing it up a bit in the future if I get the itch.
