  • Doneiko Slaughter, CB (transfer portal)
  • Tyler Baron, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Connor Meadows, iOL (transfer portal)
  • Addison Nichols, iOL (transfer portal)

Tennessee could leave their entire defense at home and Iowa still wouldn't score.

It is amazing how fast it's become expected for players entering the draft to not play in the bowl games.

I suspect it could be coming to the NCAA tournament, or maybe it already has and I missed it.

Only about ten American college players per year have a high likelihood of a guaranteed NBA contract but for those few it's a lot of money they're nearly guaranteed to get. Perhaps they have an insurance policy to play the NCAA tournament or even the majority of their year.

Looking at Iowa/ISU this century we only had Keegan/Fizer/Haliburton that were top 15 locks with Haliburton not even healthy. You don't have to go much lower than that where it's comparable to guys projected in very late NFL rounds.

At least in the CFP a guy on an elite team is looking at already being reasonably close to a NC just needing to win 3 games even in the new expanded format. In CBB with a 68 team crapshoot tournament some guy with an NBA lottery pick contract waiting really has no idea how close or far they could be from a championship.

Smart move by TJ Tampa as he has nothing left to prove on the field. Go get your money young man and thank you for being a Cyclone!

The guys that helped win the Liberty Bowl in 2017 and earn the Alamo Bowl probably don't play in those games today.

Other than the championship level bowls they are just exhibition games for the benefit of school fans and TV advertisers.

I'd put TV advertisers/local businesses and anyone who makes money as the main and maybe only reason they've existed.

So my question is how is he gonna do at the combine. He is really fast and has an amazing vertical isn’t he? I can’t imagine 6’2 corners that test well will fall to late second round? I’m asking because I don’t know how great of an athlete he is, I’m assuming pretty good

If the advertisers are still interested, that means there are people watching that find them interesting.

I don’t really find a lot of the bowls too interesting, but I don’t really get the idea that they are so different. All of CFB is really a TV product, and with a four team playoff, a vast majority of games have zero impact on the playoff anyway.

Great for TJ and all others who do this - I support their decisions. Serious question though - how much NIL and scholarship money should they give back for not honoring their full commitment like the other 100 guys on the roster? Seems they want their cake and eat it too. Good luck TJ!

Honestly at this point I think it is time to flush the bowl system. Maybe we go to an even larger playoff. Lower divisions manage it. I still watch these games, but when you have double digit numbers of players opting out for a single team it is really hard to take the results of these things seriously.
What you did there, I see it.

Absolutely, they follow the money.

I'm speaking at the 'back when it wasn't about the money' thing that gets thrown out there.

TJ has contributed as much or more to the program this season as anyone on the team even if he doesn't play in the bowl. Sounds like cutting your nose off to spite your face.
