Good for him. Don't blame him at all. I'm still trying to decide if I'm taking vacation to watch it or opting out. That never used to be a question but...meh.

This is the under appreciated upside of bowl-season opt outs: Talented players lower on the depth chart get quality reps against good competition. In Porter's case, I think he has significant upside and just needs some seasoning to come into his own as a Power 5 CB with NFL potential.Since it sounds like Darien Porter is coming back I'd guess he gets the start. Will be a good opportunity for him to gain some more expierence and momentum going into next year.
How many points Brian need? 200?Tennessee could leave their entire defense at home and Iowa still wouldn't score.
broken arm, yeahSame here. Still recovering from injury?
I would think it’s also meaningful to the seniors who know this is their last game. Get that trophy.i know maybe for us fans it sucks all these guys opt out
coaches don't really care. they use these games as a measuring stick for the next year, anyway. it's essentially a pre-season game for spring practice.
i think a coach would take having 20+ extra practices and another "game" over blowing up the whole bowl system.
Honestly at this point I think it is time to flush the bowl system. Maybe we go to an even larger playoff. Lower divisions manage it. I still watch these games, but when you have double digit numbers of players opting out for a single team it is really hard to take the results of these things seriously.
im not sure people inside the athletic buildings actually do. It's more of an exhibition. Obviously they want to win because they have that competitive drive, but they know what it is.Honestly at this point I think it is time to flush the bowl system. The “playoff guys” are playing against the best competition possible. The opt out discussion is basically the talk of sports radio for all the stuff discussed here (NFL prep, NIL impact, transfer portal, etc).
I saw a tweet that the Troy QB was one of like 60 senior QBs, but he was the only one that was with the same school his whole career.
I get that guys like Tampa shouldn't risk injury, etc....but why don't more playoff guys opt out? They are as likely to get injured in the additional games. They are "playing for something" I guess....but one of those things that I don't get as the future money logic should still apply
Yeah, that's fair. The “playoff guys” are playing against the best competition possible.
The draft boards aren’t finished by a long shot.
You have huge games in those final two and it moves the needle and the Bank Account.
TJ2 in this bowl game has relatively Zero upside.
I think it’s a badge of honor and shows the underclassmen what hard work and dedication brings.
Hes 100% earned the right.
Plus there is so much on the line for these guys.
It’s a business decision, for both sides.
Imagine if Breece blows his knee out in Orlando instead of NFL Week 7
Jaylon Smith blew his knee in the Fiesta Bowl and cost him about $13 MILL.
(He ended up getting paid down the road but it could’ve easily not worked out that way).
