Honestly in a NIL world, his coming back to ISU this year was surprising/huge. I hope that because ISU has a good culture that he won't be an outlier but in the football world I think he will be.

I think your hope is right culture/ player development is playing a strong part because we would have had players like Roco, TO and Dom orange leave this year. We've kept all the players that have been offered over 500k that Iowa state cant compete with financially. So far at least its been the norm and not an outlier.

Dont blame him one bit, looking forward to seeing him get drafted. Shoot if his combine is better than expected he could still have someone like him enough to go Rd 1.

  • Sitting out for Tennessee

  • Doneiko Slaughter, CB (transfer portal)
  • Tyler Baron, EDGE (transfer portal)
  • Connor Meadows, iOL (transfer portal)
  • Addison Nichols, iOL (transfer portal)
  • Brandon Turnage, DB (transfer portal)
  • Jack Luttrell, DB (transfer portal)
  • Mo Clipper Jr., iOL (transfer portal)
  • Warren Burrell, CB (transfer portal)

I would imagine by next year you will have a team opt out of a bowl game because they can't field a competitive team.

Honestly at this point I think it is time to flush the bowl system. Maybe we go to an even larger playoff. Lower divisions manage it. I still watch these games, but when you have double digit numbers of players opting out for a single team it is really hard to take the results of these things seriously.

Agree. And get rid of rankings.

Both USC and UNC barely have enough guys to field a team tonight.

It is amazing how fast it's become expected for players entering the draft to not play in the bowl games.

I assume you mean this as an overall trend, not specific to ISU.

I used to get upset when players opted out. I went from 'taking a player sitting out as a slight to the university and fans' a few years ago to 'if that's what's best for the player, go for it' in a very short time.

They have such a short window to make money. Good players get bypassed over by the NFL all the time and injuries can delay or destroy a dream. I don't blame any player for opting out to protect their chances.

Should be a great game then, huh?

Why bother even watching?

I think for the respective fanbases you just hope you see some new guys look good when given a chance. For your average viewer, I think you watch just hoping it's an entertaining game.

Bowl games are for the fans and development of younger players buried on the depth chart. Oh I forgot the real reason, MONEY.

I just wonder if the money is even there in this current environment. Especially outside like the NY6. Are there enough people buying tickets and tuning in on TV to these games between a couple 6 or 7 win teams who may have 20+ players sitting out between them?

I know I used to try and watch as many of these games as I could. Now outside of the ISU game I'll still watch if I have nothing better to do, but it isn't a priority for me like it used to be.

It's kind of funny how many people make it sound like the bowl system is some NCAA thing that can be changed. This is completely up to the companies and cities that sponsor the bowls. I mean in a lot of ways, I get peoples feelings on the matter, some of these bowls aren't the best to watch, but just like crap reality TV, if the money is there for sponsorship, it's going to continue to happen. It's about the money and getting people to spend money in their cities.

Hopefully Memphis wasted time preparing for him to play.

Smart move, go get paid!
