Student Section

The problem right now is ISU won't enforce line cutting. My son goes 6+ hrs early only to see hundreds of kids cut in line 20 min before the gates open. It's discouraging the real fans.
This has always been the case since lining up early started. Only real solution is self policing, more than once I or others around me told kids to f off when trying to hop in line last minute with friends during the Hoiberg years with no issues.

Every game I've seen at AFH they fill it up. I don't know it intimately though like Hilton. Just know it from TV. They also seem to bounce around more often and frequently and it's hard to find our fans doing this. Nobody jumps up and down like this at Hilton anymore:

Would love to see this return more to Hilton. This happens consistently at KU conference games I've watched on TV at least.

Again, don't know Allen Fieldhouse intimately like Hilton, but Hilton is not what it once was.

Our one experience with Phog was maybe 4-5 years ago. ISU led most of the first half, and was ahead at the half. Fans were pretty darn quiet during that time. The volume didn't really crank up until sometime in the 2nd half when they started catching up.
That noise level thing they brag about had nothing to do with the game itself. Once during each half they did a "crank up the volume" type thing where they encouraged fans to all scream at the same time to trip the decibel meter (or whatever you call it). They showed the meter on the center screens, and people screamed louder to make it go higher. The noise value during the rest of the game wasn't even close to the meter readings. And the main reason they are louder is because they sit on metal bleachers around most of the arena, except for the center court fat cats that have wood slatted seat backs. Nothing but a similar amount of bodies to absorb the same noise.

I really wish people would stop fantasizing about how great the Phog is. Like Jamaal said, it's just another gym. :)

Jamie cracking down on camping. Bad move.

JFC are they just trying to kill student demand? This is one of the few games students get turned away and they are making it harder. The A.D. needs to be doing things to encourage attendance on the games that the upper bowl of the student section is sparsely filled. Heck there were a couple of the buy games that the students didn't even fill the lower bowl seats if I'm remembering correctly.

Not sure I understand how this makes it harder to attend. Lining up days in advance doesn't encourage attendance.

So will students now have to camp out someplace nearby for a good spot in the official camp out line for Hilton?

Or the level of chaos you create once you are actually inside of Hilton...
Totally agree. Blows my mind how some people look for excuses or blame Jaime for everything. None of these changes or the current bleacher set-up impacts how you show up and be loud. Get in the doors, find your seat, and get crazy. If you have a voice after a close game you did not do your job as a fan.

My kid was one of the students captured on national television flipping off Bill Self. He texted me asking about the origins of Hilton Magic this morning since I was around when it started. They are bringing it! Proud dad moment. :)

When did the open seating go into effect? When I was in school it was assigned seat every game and seat locations rotated. Even behind the basket. But my time coincided with the 30 some game home win streak so you went to every game.
We are a good team and program. Why not use that same formula now and get rid of the line issues?
