The way he uses his timeouts to kill his teams momentum and what he does during a time out(spends very little time with players which may be a good thing), indicates a lot about his coaching

Man, I wish people would stop with the Hoiberg stuff. First, it wasn’t that great. Yes, he turned us around but he literally had a lineup of 5 NBA players and didn’t do much with them. And don’t give me the “Niang’s injury bullsh*t.” We had plenty of head-scratching losses with him. Fred’s ceiling at ISU isn’t much higher than Steve’s.

Second, Fred wanted out. That should tell you all you need to know. Time to let it go.

I don’t remember Fred losing to Milwaukee or Florida AM. Can we agree the “floor” is substantially lower with Steve.

I really, really hope we don’t get stuck in the McD no mans land where there is almost no hope of success but you know he won’t be fired.

He still recruits a lot better than McD but we are unlikely to play another meaningful game this year. If TH goes pro, probably won’t play a meaningful game next year either.

Oh BS it wasn’t that great. It was one helluva run rebuilding our program from a bottom feeder, achieving consistent success, then handing off a Top 10 roster to the next coach.

Don’t attempt to minimize those great years for the ISU program and fans because you are bitter he left or attempting to talk yourself into feeling good about the job Prohm has done with the program.

I’m not minimizing anything. I’m also not romanticizing it the way some do. Yes, he made us relevant again. I miss having an offensive game plan. I miss being able to score on an out of bounds play. But this same message board complained about Fred too - not working the refs, too much hero-ball, no defense, bad losses.
And he was not a good recruiter of HS talent. The backend of that roster was a mess after he left because of Fred’s recruiting misses.

Fred was a good coach but some on here act like he was a God. There are a lot of coaches would would want this job. A lot of young, hungry, innovative coaches. We don’t need to stand around like a jilted ex-girlfriend for Fred. It’s over. It was good while it happened but time to move on.

Who recruited Georges Niang, Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, and Naz Long?

I missed the 12/22 game, so I've seen the Iowa and FAMU games back-to-back.
Both games featured a team that was unprepared, lacked of intensity, and played poor defense. He still doesn't play George Conditt enough. After hitting a three to go ahead (~ 1 minute left?), Prohm called a time-out and took the crowd out of the game. Really stupid. It wasn't a large or boisterous crowd, but given the circumstances, we were trying.

FAMU ran the same screen/curl action off the strong side base-line and we didn't defend it like 4 possessions in a row.

I'm not sure what Prhom did in the three weeks since the Iowa game but not only didn't we improve but we regressed. And yes, I know Tyrese was out.
His use of TOs is maddening

Remember McD recruited someone NBA dudes too. Taylor, Johnson, Brackins, Garrett.

When you are looking for something to criticize and you have to resort to “well the back end of the roster on the Top 10 team he left for the next coach was weak”... that should be a clear sign that you are really, really reaching.

I don’t remember all this fan criticism you reference. I guess I was too busy enjoying exciting, winning basketball to listen to minor gripes. And I think our recruiting was just fine, as evidenced by our success and all those great cyclones currently playing in the NBA. Again, you are overstating the negatives and minimizing the good.

You are probably right that era is done. Hopefully we make a great hire and bring back similar levels of success and excitement. The current trajectory of the program doesn’t look good for the near future.

Go back to a game thread from the 2012-13 season, or after games like the Baylor and Tech losses in 2015, or the UAB loss, and you'll find plenty of criticism.

Fans complained after losses? Shocking. Well I guess that settles it then.
