That was awesome. Definitely second only to ESB. After the beginning of the movie lays the groundwork, the payoff at the end is fantastic.

Beginning wasn't what I expected, but they told a good story. It was a good mix of grit and emotion. This was a new angle at what a hero was for the Star Wars franchise.

It is hard to talk about without giving too much away, but I walked in with certain ideas of how the story would go. And though certain parts played out how I thought they would there was a lot of stuff that surprised me. Disney did a great job with this story.
I look forward to a week or so from now when more of the board has seen it and we can talk about certain aspects more openly.
I'd give it a B. Very good story. Good directing. Good crowd service. Lacked in characters. I really wasn't invested in any of the characters. I wanted to love Donnie Yen's character and actually disliked him.
Ok...those who have seen it already now have done a great job of being vague enough. Thank you. That said...I am now staying away from this thread until tomorrow morning. Going to the early bird show at the comfy Altoona theater.
I can't say that I was surprised by a single scene in the movie other than a couple easter eggs. It basically played out beat for beat how I thought it would. I think that is why I am so luke warm on it.
Anyone have thoughts on the CGI character? Not trying to get too in depth with spoilers, just wondering what your thoughts were.
I actually thought it was really cool. I wasn't expecting that at all, so when they eventually showed his face it took a split second for my brain to comprehend what was going on. The voice acting someone did for him was phenomenal.
It was noticeable but I was impressed on how good it looked. We are almost out of the uncanny valley with this one. I thought the one at the end was amazing.
I'm a bit with you. Loved the grit, loved the directing, loved the action, loved the Easter Eggs, and overall, enjoyed the story. However, while a few characters like K-2SO were amazing, I just struggled to get too invested into many of the other characters. I thought Jyn Erso was ok, but I overall thought Rey was a much better heroin in The Force Awakens. Consequently, I probably prefer The Force Awakens to Rogue One, most fully from a character perspective. For those yet to see it, take solace in the fact that regardless of how much you end up liking it, I guarantee that you will appreciate how much it looks, acts, and feels like a Star Wars movie. You can also tell that the production/directing team went to SUPER great lengths to accomplish those ends, and I, along with many others, are very appreciative of that.
I'd take Felicity Jones over Daisy Ridley any day. Not saying Ridley isn't great in her own right but I love Jones.
I haven't seen it yet, but to your overall point, I usually just want to see a movie. I don't get too caught up in character development and artsy stuff like that. I just want to see a beginning, middle, and end with stuff blowing up. Yes, I am a guy.
Storm Troopers = Still trained their whole life to fight, still can't hit ****.
At some point, the empire should really get it's money back. The cloning people must have screwed something up genetically because Jango was a pretty decent shot. Whatever they did to make them more docile and controllable must have also impacted their ability to aim; Boba didn't have that problem and he was a pure clone so obviously it was something they did.
Their "armor" is also subject to being damaged by a stick. Someone should strongly consider a re-design.
