Star Wars Expanded Universe Thread

Was bored the other night and started watching the The Acolyte thingie. Not sure why I started watching it considering it was cancelled. Did I mention I was bored?

There isn't a single sympathetic character in the whole thing. The only remotely likeable character got killed off by Mr Sith dude. The rest of the good guys are sort of pathetic losers. I am used to Star Wars material being all over the place as far as quality and Jedi being sometimes sort of naive and flawed idiots but this takes it to a new near unwatchable level of stupid.

I watched the whole thing, but it wasn't good mostly because the writing was terrible. The only redeemable things about that show were the lightsaber fights and Daphne Keen.

Lightsaber combat was definitely the highlight of the show

I'm late to the party, but after Season 2 of "Andor" I dived right into the animated series "Rebels" and loved it. Probably my second favorite animated series ever behind the X-Men back in college and "X-Men; '97".

I am re-watching "Ahsoka" right now since it's essentially a sequel to "Rebels". Starting to make more sense now than the first time I watched it.

Rebels is great. I need to go finish it.

Behind the OT, Rebels is my favorite Star Wars. Some absolutely incredible episodes/storytelling

Finally got to season 2 of Andor and it is incredible. Amazing TV and adds so much to the original trilogy by showing how brutal the empire was and the sacrifices of setting up the rebellion and how the whole rebellion grew. Both seasons were top notch.

I've watched Andor start to finish a few times now. Honestly, it's a masterpiece. If you don't like it, I'm not sure you really like SW. S1 was kind of build for two episodes then action repeated over and over again. I loved those prison episodes especially. S2 the first few episodes were kind of worthless, but man, the last 6 were banger after banger.

The only thing that I didn't like about Andor is that it makes me sad that I don't think SW can ever top it. I think that is the peak and it's going to slowly tread toward obscurity/niche like Star Trek has. The only way they're going to get out of that one is to have some really, really good writers come up with a new storyline. They've pretty much explored every corner of the OT and it's backstories. The sequels were kind of a disaster. Mando had a lot of promise, but it really tailed off in S3.

They need to make another series of movies. They need to get away from the OT in the worst way.

There was speculation a while back about a more historical series around the early force users that sounded interesting.

But a true Thrawn movie trilogy based on Timothy Zahn’s books seems like a slam dunk.

Absolutely. Those books were so good. Recast the main characters and go for it.

Easily the best of the EU.

Even ignoring how much of those books conflict with the existing canon, I don't see any path to success where they keep dragging the OT characters out there. They have a massive sci-fantasy universe to tell stories from, let creators tell those stories

Dawn of the Jedi. There was a book and a comic series based around this but it may or may not be old EU stuff. Not like it would matter if they borrowed from it considering it takes place around 30,000 years before the current era.

I just completely disagree. I have read the books and enjoyed them immensely. If you recast Han Solo and skywalker you’re going to get all the same internet troll BS you did with the sequel trilogy. Plus you’d have Legends nerds crapping on them because they didn’t include the scene they liked on page 236.

They NEED to get away from the skywalkers. Just has to happen.

Just binged Andor, what a final series of episodes.

Also this.

They’re putting out trailers for shows 1-1/2 years away? And more importantly, is there much between now and then that they’re putting out that people want to watch?

I get Marvel putting out a long timeline with teasers for shows and movies, but they were releasing stuff on the regular. Seems SW is losing the momentum from Andor and didn’t really have anything ready to keep interest.

I'm nearly certain that trailer is AI + previous Star Wars footage stitched together. It's not the official Star Wars account and Ryan Gosling has that telltale uncanny smoothness to his face on several shots.
